New here, used to have an E85 , and always wished I had gotten an E86. So I got the next best thing - a new Zupra.

Where I live, a new Z4 30 costs the same as the top range Zupra, and the full test drive offered by the dealer sealed the deal for me.

Hoping to share info with other g29 Z4 owners since the cars are so closely related.

Hi and welcome aboard.

As a serial E86 owner I'd love to know how you are getting on with your Zupra and some photos would be good!

Thanks for the warm welcome. The Zupra is a really great car. I sold my E85 after ten years, and was waiting for the new G29 Z4. But the price point was ridiculously high for the M40 model, I didn’t even test drive it.

I did a very brief test drive of the Zupra when it first launched in late 2019, and was underwhelmed. Didn’t get much of a feel, and the sales person was so anxious about anything happening to the car, I didn’t try it much.

Later on, I was introduced to the sales manager who arranged a proper test drive, and it was so great to drive. Felt so flat and stable in the corners, and the exhaust made such fun noises. The engine was super smooth and pulled so effortlessly, i worried about whiplash. Worst thing about it was prob the huge airbag on the F30 sourced sport steering wheel.

I’m now into 1.5 years of ownership, and only clocked less than 9000km. But it’s a great daily driver - the adaptive suspension is much more comfortable compared to the E85 M sport suspension. Far less body roll too.

The most annoying part is probably dealer support. They aren’t familiar with BMW ish problems, and the customer svc don’t seem equipped to handle such complex cars. Also convoluted parts procedure where they order from Japan, who in turn order them from Germany. So twice the shipping delays.

That looks fantastic!

Thanks for the insight into your ownership experience - its sounds like you are really pleased with it.

Other than the service aspect perhaps. But then that drivetrain will be a totally new experience for Toyota dealers so perhaps it isn't surprising.

Yeah, the dealers will take some time to adapt. But the service model wasn’t well prepped from the start, unfortunately.

I think going from a 2.5si E85 to the Zupra was a far bigger jump compared to a Z4M owner making the change. Great machine, I think it’s closer to the E85/6 feel, thanks to some of the Toyota tuning. Also nice to have a unique interior (even if it’s a mishmash of bmw switchgear).

Highly recommend you try it at the chance!

Very pleasing on the eye, dare i say it but like the g29s pretty raunchy sister.

I find it takes a lot more styling cues from the E85/6 than you’d expect! Especially when you see those haunches in the side view mirror
