Has anyone upgraded to 5.1 on their iPads yet? Apparently it let's you store movies on the Cloud!!!! You'd have to buy extra memory though! But thats made my day!!

As for 'the new iPad', apart from a couple of niche applications people use them for then I think upgrading from iPad2 is a complete and utter waste of money. Out of interest, how many tablet owners use the camera in them other than for skyping? I just can't imagine wielding a tablet around when you could use a smartphone and transfer the photo to the tablet at the click of a button. Maybe from iPad to the new iPad makes more sense. I'm sure it won't stop the queues from already starting to form around Apple shops. Prepare for Apple fever again!
And the 4G bit did make me laugh. They've launched a technology that's no use outside of the USA! Every country and network seems to call 4G something different, but we send our Freeview broadcasts in the frequency range Apple are using with US carriers. Germany's 4G is a different frequency again. So much for industrial standard - it's worse than the bluetooth specs, but that's a whole different rant.... ...and not really Apple's fault.

My ipad is now running 5.1..... had to do a full restore to get it working... which didnt please me much :x
But being able to delete photo stream has been a long time coming... all those dodgy pics i take on my phone on my nights out can now be forever forgotten

Mine's on order, but only because I found I could get £200 for my original 18-month old 16gb iPad 3G.
Didn't bother with the iPad2 as I tend to skip one generation when I upgrade.
The only thing I miss is the lack of storage expansion - as I don't really want to have to stream 4gb of HD movie over 3g (or 3.5g anyway).
4G is just a marketing term anyway. HSPA+ (3.5G) that we can get in the UK is categorised as 4G in the US.

I sold my 64GB 3G for £450 and another 16GB WiFi for £250 at work, happy to pay the extra and get new ones.....

Ive got an ipad 2 and cant see myself upgrading. The display is more than good enough if your watching 'movies from an unknown source' shall we say :wink:
What i find incredible is the amount of press Apple get!
If ANYONE else brings out a product they're lucky if it gets a mention in specialised press but Apple make front pages of national newspapers for a little browsing tablet! Its not like they've cured cancer!

You have to give them credit for their marketing.I won't be upgrading but have to confess to being a total convert (didn't get it, didn't see the point of them), I bought SWMBO a iPad 2 for Christmas and never use the laptop at home now, it is so much more convenient to use.
Just waiting for the iPhone 5 to come out and hope it is nowhere near the disappointment my Nokia N8 has been, but have to convince myself it's worth it.

I will be keeping my iPad1 for now. Mostly use it while traveling around Germany to find places to see and eat. General info kind of stuff. I have zero photos, movies, music on it. It gets used a lot at home as both the wife and I quite often end up surfing at the same time. For surfing at home I prefer my iMac. That is if one considers 2G 256K surfing. Snails move faster than my connection.
I am thinking of getting one, currently got a HP touchpad that was on firesale. I got 5.1 on my iphone 4s but trying to get it down on the girlfriends is a pain. I used a work mates android hotspot at work and it was fine, got home to do the girlfriends....won't work, had to change the DNS on her phone for the broadband and its sloooowly downloading, apparently apple are blocking certain ip addresses for the downloads :thumbsdown:
I have 2 iPhone 4 and 2 iPad 1s between me and the missus and an iMac 24" at home too. I have. To use a windows laptop for work and a PDA which do my nut in.
Apple products are just so easy to use and integrate with each other. I'm waiting for new phone coming out but will but new iPad shortly

I personally think the ipad and other tablets are very limited in what you can do with them, especially for your average home user.
However, their role in the workplace will grow especially with VDI rolling out in many large organisations. By which you can 'stream' your windows OS and applications to your ipad whether you be in the office or out on site. This will offer many advantages in the way people currently work, removing them from their traditional static PC and desk. This will also enable staff to bring their own devices into work and still be able to access company systems and applications.

Another big area that the ipad and alike is going to gather momentum in is augmented reality. This is VERY COOL and opens new avenues (although it has been around for some years) But with advances in software and licencing/hardware costs being driven down sectors such as the engineering and design industry are going to benefit greatly from this technology.

We have citrix at my work, i can connect to our external citrix site from my ipad and access all our servers, notes client, Windows Desktop environment etc without the need for desktop steaming/ VNC such as logmein etc.
the interface isnt perfect though.. especially without a dedicated right click function from a touchscreen.... but its a good start.

I see there's some Google/Moto(?) sunglasses that do similar as well, projecting a heads up display onto the lens. I'd quite like a HUD on the car, and since I have to wear glasses anyway the idea of getting info on them is quite appealing if it was done right.
Big appeal for me in a business sense for a tablet would be idea like the Asus transformer or an iPad with a iMac style docking station. Something you can sit down and use properly and ergonomically with a real mouse and keyboard and then seamlessly pick up and walk off with it.

Back in the day of Psions and iPaq's PDA's were fantastic. With the advent of the smart-phone and finally tablet formats that are actually usuable it makes a PDA completely pointless. Mentioning Psion it's such a shame they failed, they had some great products (Psion 7 was basically a netbook, they had an iPod/mp3 player they shelved before launch) which seemed to fail when others have made the same thing and it's become the next essential gadget.shambolic said:
