New Group Buy - BB ByPass System 3.2M 3.0Etc - NEW VIDS PG 8

Finally got round to reading the whole of this tread. Fantastic stuff and I'm very keen to get mine done. Paza3 I have also PM'd you :)

First impressions on the 1" bypass

Pros:
Revs easier. Didn't expect this
Idle note is unchanged
Light acceleration gives only a slight increase in volume
Moderate acceleration gives a nice raspy note with enough additional volume to drown out the tapets

Cons:
Heavy acceleration gives an extreme rasp, probably too much for me but I'll see if it grows on me
NOT ENOUGH POPS! I really only did the mod to add pops so Im really dissappointed by this. I had maybe 1 or 2 clear pops on the way home but i can hear plenty more still being muffled. Would really appreaciate any opinions on why this is. The car is Australian delivered so is it possible i have more polution gear? :(

Conclusion:
Ill have to give it some time to see if Ill keep it or mod it back. Ive got a gruppe m on the way so Ill see how it goes as a combo ;)

There seem to be a few of us 3.0i owners who fancy this mod, does anyone know if the rear box on our cars is welded on or just clipped on? Did anyone actually figure out measurements for 3.0i back boxes? How many people here would like to try and get this done

I'd be interested but would want to hear in the flesh rather than a youtube clip.
What has put me off is the hassle of getting someone reliable to fit it.
Now if there was someone in the London area who's had it locally done then I'd probably give it a go.

I've been considering this mod but I don't really understand the legality of it.
The motor vehicle construction and use regs state the following:-

(1) Every vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine shall be fitted with an exhaust system including a silencer and the exhaust gases from the engine shall not escape into the atmosphere without first passing through the silencer.

(2) Every exhaust system and silencer shall be maintained in good and efficient working order and shall not be altered so as to increase the noise made by the escape of exhaust gases

Doesn't the mod contravene both these regs or am I missing something?

It doesn't contravene (1) as the gasses still pass through the silencer section, albeit at the far end, and I believe there's more than one silencer in the system anyway.
If (2) were policed fully, then every aftermarket exhaust would be in contravention. But as the bypass goes above the silencer, there'd be little chance of anyone spotting it without removal. Plus there are plenty of cars on the market that have bypass valves in the silencers as standard, so that they're quiet on part throttle and loud on WOT.

In the case of the bypass pipe, it only makes the car a couple of dB louder, but not so much that it sounds like a straight-through on a 1.0 Nova - and it would still pass a track day noise test.

AFAIK the MOT test does not cover all C&U regulations. Although there's nothing to stop a busybody PC stopping you because he 'thinks' your exhaust system is too loud. The PC doesn't need to prove it, he can simply give you a S59 notice for it (i.e. one of those that can see the car confiscated if you get a couple, and that has no appeals process).

Hi guys,
I really like your solution muffler bypass. I would add that bypass solenoid valve. But I can not find a suitable part. Do you have any ideas please?
Thank you.

Was there a definitive measurement for the 3.0i (2003) ? really fancy this!! if not when my car's back from the garage ill get the jack out!

Not that i saw. I was interested until the garage told me they'd need to cut the old exhaust off as the connection at the downpipe area looked crap. I figure it was a faff for that, then having a new connection welded in...

so to fit these on a 3.0 the backbox will definaly have to be removed?

Apologies for resurrecting the thread, but rather than start a new one, if anyone would like an idea of how they sound on an ///M after 2,000 miles of bedding in, I took some video footage at the weekend while testing positioning of my GoPro. About 1:30 and 3:00 minutes in gives a good idea of how it sounds, although there's a lot of wind noise.

Nice vid. Been looking at this option and seems like a pretty good compromise, especially at that price. Anyone know if Warren engineering who made the pipes up last year are still doing them?

Wanted to resurrect this thread and ask if anyone who had it done thought it had been a good idea or had any other comments post install?

If the consensus is yes then I'll contact Warren Engineering direct and have it done...

I'm really happy with mine, at the National Meet the other weekend I was pressing on with Tom in front and D6GMB behind and he said it sounded great :driving:

Cheers Darren. I saw some people had mentioned slightly wider pipes for more robust volume, is yours just right or do you wish it was bigger? (ooer missus )

Sounds amazing, couldnt figure out how I could hear it above mine at nearly 8000 rpm and the rear exhausts look standard. Some serious pops and bangs as well     8) 8) 8) 8) 8) .
Definately the most memorable (sprited run I have had in 3 years of ownership) and also the driving standards at this speed was very impressive. It was a pleasure   .
