New Group Buy - BB ByPass System 3.2M 3.0Etc - NEW VIDS PG 8

Arrr, didn't spot that? So does that mean you only had the one bypass pipe? Where we had 2?

Finally got around to getting mine fitted on my M. I am thoroughly impressed so far. To my ears, at idle and low revs the only difference is a slight additional bass note. Then once you push the loud pedal hard and the revs climb it sounds much more throaty - a bit like a 911 with a sports exhaust and valves opened. No drone at motorway speeds and a few extra cracks and pops when coming off the gas when pushing on. Couldn't be happier - all in all this cost me less than £100. :D

No I had 2 pipes fitted.

I drove my z last Sunday which is the first decent run since having it fitted and I think I can hear a slightly different noise. I get more of an deeper exhaust sound at low revs than before and has a nice subtle burble at tickover. Also think there is a nicer more aggressive sound near the top end but I need to give it a proper drive this weekend to really tell.

It really is very subtle so far and I wonder if it's just imagination as I mostly drove with music on before so not as easy to tell

Great thread! The pictures and videos look and sound fantastic! First thing back at work I will be having my back box off and creating this mod. My company makes conveyors so have all that is needed at work. Including the tube itself
By the sounds of it the 3/4 is more than enough for what I want. I have a 3.0se and when I have the backbox off I will get some drawings up and before and after pics. (on maternity at the min so won't be till the first week of June)
What I might do is actually use the 1" pipe and place a nut and fly bolt onto the body of the pipe to change the flow so if I want it offensive I can or if not it can easily be changed.
I will update when done and could also make a few extra once all is set up so if anyone is interested for the 3.0se let me know.

This is a great idea but has anyone tried just drilling a hole prior to the muffler? Wouldn't this generate generate the same popping sound without the need for the pipe and muffler shop work?

would tht not be an MOT failure? Or not?

So having read the whole posting, did I miss anyone who has had this done to a 3.0i E54 exhaust? is the backbox welded on? and can I have one?

I have a 3.0 se and am very interested in hearing how you get/got on and having a 1'' adjustable pipe

+1

I'm familiar with this mod from the Porsche Boxster and it makes a huge difference to the sound. The optional Porsche Sport Exhaust is a just a vacuum operated version of the same thing with a big price tag.

I'd like to hear it on the 3.0 m54 engine.

There seem to be a few of us 3.0i owners who fancy this mod, does anyone know if the rear box on our cars is welded on or just clipped on? Did anyone actually figure out measurements for 3.0i back boxes? How many people here would like to try and get this done

I was under the car yesterday checking to see what the space was like above the back box but never noticed if it was welded. In fact, I'm almost certain it's clamped as there was a thread on zpost where a guy had stuck a few washers between the joins to replicate a muffler delete. It just sounded like a blown exhaust.

A good idea is to pick up a cheap spare back box from a breakers or ebay and get the pipes put on that one. That way you can stick the box in somewhere to get modded and return for a quick fitting later. Also means you can put back to standard very easily yourself and sell on the modified box when/if you ever sell.

I'd be up for some pipes but would like to here them on a 3.0 first. They make a massive difference on the cockster.

At the weekend I heard Voodoo's ///M modified with these and it sounded great. Like OEM, but much more volume and rasp

What car are you getting them fitted on bertman? Sound clip when done would be nice.

Note. Just to correct my previous statement about the back box being clamped on, it's not. The exhaust is more or less one massive long section as far as I can see.

Only just noticed this thread and read ALL of it! sounds very good and i deffinately need this mod doing on my //M !
