Hi guys, just picked up a very clean 2004 Z4 3.0 roadster. We've been looking to change my wife's 118i for some time now and thought about getting another cabriolet after owning a 306 cab some years ago (not the best cab but was extremely cheap summer fun to own and we made a profit selling it).
Fast forward a few years and the search started with Z3's, which we saw a tidy 2.2 at a garage, except it was pretty dire in the flesh. Engine sounded great though. We also viewed a nice 3.4S Boxster - this had nearly everything we wanted bar parking sensors, including super sexy PCCB brakes (incredibly they looked new after 90k miles!!!). A test drive went well and we made an offer but the seller would not budge, so I guess he didn't really want to sell. We were £300 adrift on a £10k car and I wasn't smtten enough to raise my offer any further, probably because the car just wasn't as fast as I'd hoped. I started looking at Z3M's and Z4M's, figuring that these are solid investments and on the understanding that there will be M priced running costs too. Sadly I discounted these due to preferring to spend that sort of cash on a 911 or Cayman instead (I need to scratch that itch bad).
So, price range drastically altered and we went to see a Grey Z4 3.0 manual, 30 mins away from us. We calculated that if we bought relatively cheaply enough then we can't lose much and maybe, just maybe if we kept it long enough it may hold or rise (ha ha). We would use the car occasionally and garage it in the winter. We had looked at some for sale ads here too and there were a couple of options but so far away, which made the decision to buy this one slightly easier. The car was very clean, not dents or accident damage, engine strong and quiet, hood super quick, springs all springy and unbroken as far as I could tell. Service history long and comprehensive, having some obvious stuff done in the past including a spring and bushes. The test drive went well and we haggled a bit and shook on a deal. Nice guy to buy from and I hoped he thought the same the other way. Picked it up last night.
Stuff to do? There's always something right? 'CENTER CONSOLE SCREW COVER' I need two - anyone got some? New wiper blades are the job for this weekend and I'll be searching for the Bucks chap who can do a motor relocate as a precaution.
This does mean that the super weather we have been having will come to an end now that we've got this car...
Pictures to follow when I have time.
