New Ford Focus RS

I was one of the '300bhp through the front is too much' - until we raced one at the Ring a few months back - the thing was incredible!

Short test on 5th Gear last night:

My girlfriend is interested in swapping her RS Fiesta for one! Saves me selling the Z4!! :P

It does look better in blue!!

Mind you, the MINI JCW still came out on top! :P

As much as I'm sure the Focus RS mk2 won't be a disappointment, it is now in the realms of a big 'old' Mondeo sized car, comfortably the size of an E46 3 series, if not a tad bigger...
It is a hatch by configuration, but it's not the kind of car I think of when I think hot hatch. The old Granada Scorpio Cosworth was available with a hatch, and had ~ 200bhp, but it was far from a hot hatch :P

JCW would be where my money would go out of all the current crop.
It just makes sense in a fun little car like that and it doesn't have so much power the fun and ability to use it is corrupted. In a bigger heavier car you want more grown up dynamics and so a Scobby/Evo would be where my money would go in that class/size of car.

Did you read the MPG for that RS!!! :o

Quote:
"We didn’t have as long with the Focus as the other cars here, so were unable to carry out a comprehensive economy test. But when it was being driven hard along mountain roads, the trip computer dropped to 11mpg. As we cruised through towns at the end of the day, this figure rose to only 14mpg... Topping 20mpg as an annual average could be a challenge."

Didn't really like this when I first heard of it but after watching this http://www.autocar.co.uk/VideosWallpapers/Videos.aspx?AR=238360&CT=V I feel that is actually a good car considering the 300bhp doesn't torque steer it, which is an achievement. Still should of gone for 4-wheel drive imo but still a great car for the money. Does sound like the ST of cheap price but high running costs.

Lovely in white! Any idea when white cars started to become good looking as I remember a few years ago it was something only a Transit would be seen in? (maybe the odd polo) :)

I love this car! I've always been a fan of fast Fords.

If this came out last year instead of this, then i may not have the Z4...

I also like fast fords, but, they are too chavvy/max power now for me. Not sure I'd want to be seen in one. :D

I thought the same thing, but I am still drawn to that car! I've been/going through the mid-life crisis, perhaps I could start the late-chav crisis!! :P

It might be a great car to drive, but styling wise no, not for me  It will attract unwanted attention, prefer something that is more discreet but quick!

Funnily, I see something like a silver Evo VIII etc as more discrete. The VII FQ300's in silver look almost normal besides the spoiler, and you can always get the VIII FQ260 one and stick it on for uber stealth rocket at a cheap price :D

Do they come with matching slippers? :P

I actually like the styling of that new RS. I think Ford have been too understated in the styling of it's RS models in the past few years.

A bit like BMW was with the M version of the Z4. That should have been made to look way different to the standard Z4 models in terms of body kit in my view.

I wonder if dealers will be giving test drives in one? I think the press are saying a lot of people have already put deposits down without even seeing one in the metal so far!

Saw one last night in the rear view, was waiting to see it fly past but it just pootled by quite as a mouse. Big let down i was aching to hear the 5 pot roar by! I love the sounds of inline 5 cyl cars, having had one it is just my favourite sound after a V8.
So in conclusion.....Its all about the Audi TT RS really :D

Clarkson like it: http://www.topgear.com/uk/jeremy-clarkson/clarkson-focus-rs-2009-04-01

May need to see if I can get a test drive!

Although i'm tempted on an RS for my next car not sure i want to go back to a FWD scrabbler.....135i might be a better.
