We've recently seen the Golf R's discussed in similar vein but the Ford offering is considerably less per month to fund & a possible "cheap" daily drive for those who still want a kick in the pants on their way to work :driving:

The St is a very practical motor, 0-62 in 6.5 and 50mpg extra urban and pretty dynamically sound.
Has been in my thoughts as a possible dd, however there's no 3dr model :(

Expensive to run? Mpg low? :(

:driving:

Not up my street but as a practical workhorse with multiple capabilities doesn't seem mega money for the performance offered ?
Rather have my Astravan but then i don't need to accommodate passengers

You'll have to drive it like Miss Daisy to see 50mpg. Low to mid 20's is probably more like it.

My previous gen ST3 returned low 20s most of the time, quite often less. It wasn't that fuel efficient anyway, but it goads you on - you can't help but poke it for the kick and the noise

£6,380 plus servicing and maintenance to rent a car for 2 years. I think not...

You can buy outright a 3.0 Z4 for that money

Totally agree but there are a lot of plate snobs out there who like to pretend they can afford a brand new car  the bottom line £220 makes it seem cheap to them

Agree - that has to be the primary reason for people to do such things, compared with all the various financially much better options.

What you can infer from such things is the relative levels of depreciation on cars

On a daily commute 100miles a day when you're gridlock limited to 50-60mph, I can get 40mpg out a type r, so 50mpg from st should be seemples :)

Would be an interesting trial, but these Ecoboost engines are supposed to be pretty efficient, so on the extra-urban cycle shouldn't be difficult.

why is a personal contract more expensive the a business contract?

I think it was the VAT included on the personal one Taz. The business one was ex-VAT.
The difference is sometimes more than VAT though.
And sometimes you can't get anywhere near the business rates with a personal lease.
They also 'load' personal leasing to avoid treading on retail sales' toes.
Business lease rates ( plus VAT ) are sometimes available to personal leasers if you can show that your company pays you to run a car ( eg, payslip with car allowance on or contract with mileage rates for using your own car.

Thats not a bad price. We can get them for £270 deposit and £270 a month for 24 months. Needless to say they're very popular, but the facelift model will be out soon and you'll end up with the ''old shape'' motor.

They will not get 50mpg. They will get in the 30's easily enough though.

Fiesta st3 for £180 odd per month with just under a grand down up front. I could actually be tempted by this and I suspect it's the better car of the 2.
