New engines confirmed - sDrive 20i and 28i

I would love to test drive my own car (sDrive 23i) and a new sDrive 20i back to back. I suspect I would feel disappointed with the sDrive 20i... would I? :?

That would mean I would need to consider the 28i, and in M Sport trim with a few options added, the price would be around £38 K ... but for a 4 pot...

Hmmm :?

20i is 0.3 sec slower than our 23i. 28i is the only replacement for the current 23i owners.

Losing 2 cylinders but getting 2 turbochargers instead...

I don't think that there is a replacement for the 23i, the 20i seems like an evolution of the 20 e85, the 28i is a direct replacement for the 30i. I think this is where it falls down, if as a potential customer, I wanted a warm car with good emissions and fuel economy I would get the 20i (think it should have been tuned to about 205 bhp). If on the other hand I am not after economy or low emissions but want that six cylinder motor then I get the 30i.

You have hit the head on the nail sars, there is no replacement for the 23i and the 20i looks more like a model to compete with the new Merc SLK 200 (both have 184 hp) Why would I want to downgrade to a 20i and I'm not sure the 28i is worth the money. I'm in a real dilemma over this one and suspect I'll just keep the car for about 5 years. I can't even consider the new SLK as an option as my neighbour is waiting on delivery of a new SLK 200. :headbang:

As Z4 Beemer said, I'm also reductant to go slower and have less power. Why did BMW make 20i slower than 23i, but made 28i faster than 30i?

Just notice BMW website shows 23i and 30i are still available in certain models. What is BMW doing???

That's how I see it too, may keep my car for four years, but that's a 100,000 mikes :o and then see what the new TT is like, but my next car won't be a Zed which is a shame.

I think that there is significantly more stress on the 250 bhp blown 2.0 litre 4 pot than on the 3.0 litre six and do I want to take the risk doing so many miles.

According to the dealers I have spoken to over the last couple of days, 30i still available to be ordered specced for new until mid September. Thats when the 20i and 28i will take over and the 23i/30i cannot be ordered anymore.

I am in discussions for a 30i M Sport delivered on the new plate, to my spec for Mid September

I am currently considering my options, would love an E89 but I am happy to keep my ///M for another year and wait and see what used prices of the 28i are like.

ksher, no engine pics yet.

HOLTY, you should be getting at least a £5k deposit contribution from BMW UK, and £6k should be achievable with a little haggling.

The 4-cylinder engine with Twin-Turbo is used on 5-series now. It is just not quite right to have 4-pot in a big saloon.

Thanks Mike. Currently at just over £7k off list price, including the cost of the free media package upgrade. Major sticking block is the ridiculous trade in they have currently offered for my Infiniti G37 Convertible!

I really would consider a sDrive28i M Sport with 8-speed auto sport transmission (love new paddles setup and gear lever).

Yeah, initially a lot of people were down on the idea of the 4-pots. I think now they are coming around.

They are doing good deals on the 23i and 30i at the moment, obviously. I am going up for a test drive this weekend in fact. Though the more I read the more I might hang on to try the 28i...
