New car vs ZM insurance

Hi, insured my new 35is today after the free 7 day policy expired, renewal date on the old M roady was 10/03/2015 and had to pay another £8.66p for the new car, total now is £255 fully comp protected, social use only, didn't think that was bad at all, certainly not complaining at 8 quid more for a new car!

Anyone else had a pleasant surprise with their new car insurance?

You do know how to rub salt into an open wound.

Current insurer classes Z4M a far bigger risk than a VX220 and won't insure it. Don't see it myself.

10% refund for cancelling 25% of the policy.

So to answer your question - no pleasant surprise.

If there is a logic to car insurance its well above my interlectual level :x

63 plate 120dx to Z4 35iS...4 months left on the policy and £17.84 debited to my account AFTER the £25 amendment charge!

For its class, the M is a very low risk and hence low insurance.

The 3.0 was more expensive to insure than the M, logic ?

Yep had the same with my old 3.0si pvr, how is it so low risk though with that engine in it, not many get wrapped round a tree because enthusiasts generally have them is it?

Wow, I am an old git (wrong side of 50) with full NCD and my Z4C cost £400 a year which I thought was good!
Will have to shop around at renewal, but I don't know where you are in the UK.
I am in Berkshire so there is the usual "dahn Souf" bit added on!

So John I'll not break it to you that I've just got a quote for my 35is, 5 years protected NCD, social only, myself and 3 other named drivers and legal cover (as they seem to make you opt into that now) for a cool £198 with £250 excess or £238 with zero excess. Not bad going I thought.

I'm 31 living in Berkshire, full NCD, cost me £260 fully comp with the Z4M, you need to shop around! :o

That's excellent Angie, nice one. Tbh I didn't shop around, rookie error I know, prob not worth looking elsewhere now as it'll prob cost more to cancel and the percentage drop on a refund than i'll gain from a lower quote. No matter it's still not a bad price, sort it next time but yours is a very good price.

I've not even had my renewal but I doubt they will come close but that's fine by me, I'll happily move to another company. If that's the quote I get at 30, I can only imagine how good it's going to get as I get older

I would have done the same as you however and just paid the difference for the year. Not worth the hassle of cancelling.

Don't worry I will do, especially now!

I would be interested to know where you got yours insured - PM me if you would prefer not to be too public.

Many thanks anyway!

You can all piss off with your cheap insurance :P

I'm still in 4 figures to insure mine  5 year's NCB, one claim back in 2011...

I couldnt pay that amount for any car.
A few years ago I lost all my NCB for cars as I didnt have one for a couple of years and was commuting on my bike.
When it came time to get a car again I went for a cheap to insure runabout (peugeot 307) just to build up my NCB again.

Mine's about 3x the price of what you lot are getting, but I think it's mainly the mileage that's killing me at circa 15,000 a year. Of course it doesn't help that I made the mistake of telling them it had aero skirts and that - for a totally ridiculous reason - bumped up the price massively :(

Yeah I don't use mine for work and can keep it on a low mileage. Crazy bumping the price up for aero skirts, as with most things there's no common sense, if they could be bothered to catagorize things they could go in a cosmetic, makes no difference to performance, mod, s'pose they just see it as it's more nickable. :(

No sympathy for Adamski, prob 25yrs my junior and doesn't need an afternoon nap...

I've declared every modification, have three points and live in London. My ///M is £7-800 pa with 13 years NCD on a limited mileage policy. My S2000 is on a separate policy as a DD and costs a similar amount despite that policy also having the maximum NCD recognised by the insurance company. I suspect it is my occupation that screws me.

...and living in London. Interestingly I have similar NCB, and pay around the same. But my insurance went UP compared to my 3.0 when I told them about the aero skirts. Apparently because if you parked my car next to an identical one, mine would be more likely to be stolen because it looks better. That is almost exactly what I was told by Direct Line when they quoted me over £900 with aboit £800 compulsory excess IIRC... After which I moved to Chris Knott

Of course they don't take into account that the chance of my car even being parked next to an identical one, let alone next to one in a place where it could be nicked, is vanishingly small given the number produced... F*ckers :x

You should pay much more for your insurance than I do because you keep your car clean and shiny, which of course makes it appear more valuable. I hope Direct Line explained that too :P

Admiral charged me more when I added aeroskirts, more for an induction system and more again for aftermarket backboxes. Only then did they tell me that they would replace stolen or damaged parts with OEM, not replace the modifications themselves (for which they had charged me a fortune yet not actually covered). I took my business elsewhere.
