Why doesn't everyone want one? I just can't understand why you would want a manual when you have paddle shifters and kick down!
 
See now I love my DCT, its everything, fully auto, or manual when needed, instant, powerful, kicks you in the ass when 300+bhp is at full tilt in sport mode... BUT... I do miss the engagement that I feel with a manual box. I just wish someone would make a car with two transmissions so I could go manual when I want more involvement with the car but auto when I feel a bit lazy.

No matter how good the DCT is, its not as engaging as a manual, not as instant feeling (even though the shifts are faster than I could do), doesn't provide the feedback a clutch and manual shift does...
 
I have to say I would hesitate before going back to a manual. Auto great in traffic and not a bit like the clunky auto gearboxes of old.
 
I would never go back to an auto box unless for a daily car. A sports car needs a manual gearbox for that true drivers' feel... I had a 911 auto, 4x4... most boring car I ever had (apart from the kickdown on a straight road).

I'm enjoying my Zed the most in small curvy roads :driving:

Drove one of those 911s at a track day a few years ago with all the electronics on... Felt dead to me. Love my Z auto box, and only ocassionally hanker for a manual. I love Maniac's idea of a dual mode box 8)

I disagree, whenever I drive my brothers 911 turbo or Merc C63, I think the auto gearbox is amazing, i could never imagine driving that as a manual.

I think it depends on the car, if it were a TVR or a Noble then I would think the manual would be more fun...

A lot of the high performance cars are used everyday now so I think auto is the way forward.
 
I prefer a manual... harder work, more enjoyable for me and gives greater satisfaction... especially on the bike. :wink:

I do have a few autos mind you and they are OK when you just want to potter about...but driving an auto fast is soulless (IMO)

Yea i completely understand it can be more fun and you are more engaged with the car hence why I picked a manual myself.

However if you have a decent car and you commute all the time it can be a pain not to have an automatic especially in such a high powered car. I found the flappy paddle gearbox (as Jeremy Clarkson calls them) quite fun.

If the fuel economy was the same as a manual and auto didnt cost anything extra, i think a lot of people would choose it over a manual.

Manuals are fun if you intend on racing... driving to work or the shops I can't see why anyone would want a manual :P

Would only buy a manual again if it was a poor auto. That is when looking at Boxsters and caymans I would only get the latest PDK.
As for normal everyday commute or family cars then its got to be auto. Why would you go backwards?

Especially if there is no hill hold..... :poke:

I agree, it's a lot easier to drive.
That's exactly why I don't want it.

I have to agree. An auto is fine for a car you HAVE to drive daily but for a car you WANT to drive for fun it has to be a manual. :driving:

Alternatively... learn to drive properly - hill hold is for little old ladies who have no control of the car... or their bladder!
 
Wanting one, not a problem. Affording one, another thing. ;)

However I do enjoy manual when on a nice country drive, great feel and sense of involvement with the car.
 
I like my auto most of the time, the only downside is that it's a slush box and it seems to take an ice age to shift down when in manual mode. The twin clutch autos are much faster and that makes the experience better.

For me if it was a weekend car then manual, but as a daily drive then twin clutch if possible
 
No one appears to have mentioned cost as yet? how much as an option is the 8 spd auto? £1,600?

I would think that might have something to do with it as well. I would like to try it but to be fair the 6 spd manual in the Z is a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
