Nervous Time

Just dropped off the Zed at the tire shop to get fitted with new Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I know it's for the better, and I'm really looking forward to the results, but boy, I sure hate leaving my car in someone else's hands - even for a few hours.
I'll post some feedback regarding the Michelin PSS.

Hi SB, i will be interested in your feedback on the Michelins, i was thinking of fitting a set in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Neighbor,
Update us on how the PSS works out when you have a chance to put a few miles on them. What did a set of 4 cost you and who did you buy from. Thanks :)

Yes, from what I've read they are a fairly new tire, so I'm sure a number of people would be interested in your experience - especially as a replacement for the evil runflats. Let us know your initial impressions of the difference once you've taken it out for a spin or two ... :driving:

they are high performance tyres and will ahdle plenty of power...

Just make sure you wear them in / break them in for couple of 100 miles.

I went on a PSS test day after winning a competition with Piston Heads - driving Porsches' all day at the test track at Silverstone. I was asked to write it up - follow the link:

You will not regret your purchase.

Well, after about a week, and a little over 100 miles, I am very happy with the Michelin PSS. For obvious reasons I have not pushed them too hard yet, but initial feel is very good and confident. Turn-in is very responsive, and the grip, so far, is as expected - excellent.
The non RFT has clearly changed the ride of the Zed, both on surface streets as well as freeway - I'm not sure which is more pronounced, but it feels more like you are floating along - not in a bad way, still very well connected, just missing all the tiny bumps and jolts that used to be transmitted through. It makes the car feel less fragile, if that is a correct description, because you don't feel like your getting pounded by each bump. Makes me want to drive more - as if I needed that.

On the down side - I miss the look of the Bridgestone RFTs. They were much more angular looking in the sidewall (the PSS looks a little rounder), and the PSS don't seem to have as low a profile, even though they are supposed to be the same. I think the look of the RFT fit the Z4 a little better.

The tire fitter I used did a great job, took such good care of my car. Very happy with their expertise and their work. If anyone needs a reference in So California - let me know.

In summary - great tire - well worth the price, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

BTW - seanmillar - Great write-up on you track experience. I really enjoyed it!

Sbtwister, would there be any chance of a pic? just wanted to see the "rim protection" offered with the michelins.

cheers

Phil

Hey Sbtwister, I'm a bit south of you but I'll take that reference...in SB I presume?
