Need help finding a new car

I am looking for a replacement car - it is my Citeron Synergie MPV - poor thing is on its last legs.

It needs to have a similar load capacity - you can take all the seats out which makes it massive. I can have something a bit smaller, but need to be able to easily mount bikes to the rear or roof.

The problem with things like the X5 is the inability to take the seats out - we normally only need two seats, but there are occassions i do need extra seats, so i do need the ability to put them back in easily.

Got a dog and we take him on bike rides (before anyone thinks we have the world cleverest dog that can ride a bike, no he runs we ride :D ) which is the main reason for this car and we go camping and i like luxury so we take a lot of stuff. Oh the dog likes plenty of room, he has very long legs. All our other cars are two seaters so this has to be a real multipurpose work horse.

Age do not mind - engine size/power does not have to be great as long as it can get up hills fully loaded with out too much strain. I would like 30mpg plus - petrol diesel not really bothered.

Money depends - up to £6k, though will spend £15k if it is something nice as i will part ex my audi tt which is currently my winter car with 4wd. Want something like the synergies load capacity and the sliding doors are great, but wants something that looks better especially if i am going to get rid of the Audi and use this as my daily winter drive. Might go higher and buy new as i can use the synergie for the scrapage allowance which would save £2000.

Anyone got any thoughts - looked at the Mitisbishi L2OO double cab and nissan navaro - but not enough room in the rear seats for the dog, also the shogun but again seat removal is a problem, they do even lay completely flat and the spare on the back means problems with a bike carrier. Thought about a grand vogayer but they are a bit boring. Love the toyota hi lux surf but they stopped making them a while ago and look a little dated, but could live with that if i could get a newer one.

If you got a Navara or L200 and had the hardtop fitted could you put the pooch in the back, if you put a bed there?

Thought about this but i like to see what he is upto, i would arrive at the camp site and he would have probaly eaten half of the camping gear :( It is a perfect size in the back for all our gear especially the LWB, they look quite good and the hard tops seem quite secure, it is just those rear seats, if I could remove and replace them easily this would be my choice. I am going to test drive one, the dealer has a nice raging bull demo for sale, though i would have to have the red bull stickers removed, not very ladylike, but would like to take the dog to see how he fits, though do not think they would like that in the demo car  Dealer thought i was mad when i got the tape measure out on my first visit and told him i measuring to see if the dog could stand up on the rear seats.

Perhaps i should change the dog, he causes so many headaches, but hes so cute (se avatar).

I like it a lot, performance doesn't seem to be great but I suppose you have the ///M for that.

And I suppose keeping the dog and the food together isn't going to work in reality

How many seats does the VW Touran have? Might be a bit on the small size (comparable to something like a Renault Scenic) but IIRC I'm sure it has 7 seats.

In all honesty I don't pay much attention to vehicles with more than 5 seats . Something like a VW Caravelle (basically a van with seats) might be an idea: 2 or 3 seats up front depending on model, and one or two removeable rows of seats behind that. Loads of space being a van, and still OK to drive. I've got the panel van model of it (a Transporter T5, although mine is the LWB rather than SWB which makes mine too long for an average parking space...), 2.5 TDI 130bhp 6-speed, does an average of 36mpg. But it is a van lol and handles like one.

Will take a look at the Caravelle. The Touran is to small even if could get the seats out as is the XC90. I need to be able to get the seats out, normally there will only be two seats used - I just need to be able to get them back in if we have a girlie night/weekend out, which is not that often unfortunatly :( .

Spent all weekend looking at boring cars, though several dealers had some nice bits which i got sidetracked with (especially the DB7) have found the merc viano - which space wise is perfect, you can take the seats out, but they are really expensive and not the most exciting thing to look at, not sure i want to spend more on that than I did on my M. We had a peugeot boxster van which was horrid to drive, so need something a little nicer than that. Power and drivability really does not matter as i have plenty of other toys to make up for that, but has be half decent.

Short list is landrover discovery, not quite big enough have found someone to custom the interior, but love them, the merc viano and the mits L200 animal - just need to find the right one at the right price. So much for spending a few thousand - everything i like is £15k plus :o

Probably, still missed something so if anyone thinks of anything that is not obvious, done subaru, kia, ssanassssongggg, jeep, hummer all the main makes, even some weird us imports but they are all too thirsty.
