Erm................. may have over-stretched myself a little.
Set off on the train to Stamford yesterday to pick up a 55-plate 2.0. Full of good intentions but half a mind to break it for spares.
The chap had taken it to two separate auto-electricians as he had a current drain and also an airbag light that wouldn't go out.
On top of that the roof didn't work. For what he was asking it made sense that it was worth more in spares.
Both auto-electricians told him he had some kind of electrical issue with the airbag system that was also draining his battery.
He's spent a fortune with them and no fix!
Even fitted another new battery in case the first one was duff. (So there's a spare new battery in the boot)
After five minutes of being there my Autophix 5900 had checked the whole system, found several legacy codes stored and I reset them all then kicked off another full scan.
While that was happening I opened the centre storage lid. Sure enough, the tab at the bottom was broken off, so the micro-switch wasn't being operated and the interior storage box light was fully on. Current drain sorted.
Turned back to the dash, airbag light gone!
I'm the first to admit electrics aren't my strong point but this was basic stuff!
Then on to the roof. We lowered it manually and I could hear a hiss. Sure enough, hydraulic fluid jetting out of a ram connection on the passenger side.
Only other issue is an oil leak on the front of the engine. Looks like it's coming from the two solenoids? 4-pot people: is this likely?
Then I drove it 92 miles home. Didn't miss a beat, and no other lights popped up. Handles completely differently with the small engine set further back. Once you adapt it is actually a nice little car, especially for Norfolk's back roads. (Sad it doesn't quite sound right though)
Oh, and 42 mpg.
Anyway, after a chat with Stuart and a set of new roof pipes reserved from him, I've decided to save it.
Going to be my daily through the winter while I get 'Cheapskate' sorted and up for sale, then come the spring I'll get this little'un sorted too.
Bit busy today with a roof motor fix for another member, but hoping Sunday I can get a good clamber over it and then I'll stick some pics up.
To Jock and Tug, who I previously spoke to: sorry chaps, no spares forthcoming this time, but I am certain to be picking your brains for 4-pot advice.
