When it comes down to wanting something bad enough one still may be required to be a bit creative in the process. Case in point: I was able to acquire a custom Whalen shift knob from a Zed driver that was selling off his Z4 for personal reasons. He had a Whalen Shift knob and I wanted one. Problem was I don't own my Z4 anymore, I own a 2001 E46 M3 cabrio. I have seen the craftsmanship of these knobs also the added weight helps with accurate shift throws. I got a great deal from the seller and a certain moderator on this forum helped immensely in forwarding the knob to me. Thank you again. Now my dilemma was altering the knob itself. I had an agreement in principle as to the change but it wasn''t going to be a slam dunk until the machinist had the part in his hands. He got it and was able to turn the part around in one day for a very very small cost. Here are the pics to illustrate my story and a happy story at that!

The insert is one from an "M" wheel.

It is recessed, but is not totally flush and at first, yes, I could feel it (not much though). This, as cj10jeeper will attest, is a heavy part, with the shorter throw and added weight it does actually feel like the shifting is more precise. It does for me anyway.

Yes, I know what you mean. I have the Storm and it is a major improvement with the gear change.

 I like that!

Greg do you have any more of those emblems?
I asked my BMW parts guys about them and he told me they are only sold in packs of 10? He could have been lying :P

Tons on ebay. Just search BMW M stickers.

It does appear that way but it rests in a machined pocket.
