Nearly sold my Z4..... Gulp

Think I'm going to hold off for the minute, biggest problem is I think I am going to regret getting rid of the Z4, when your blasting around country lanes with the roof down.....

Also after doing my sums again it's £1k worse than private instead of £500 so think if I did decide to change I would go the private route first as another £1k would obvioulsy get me a better car.

Just remember if you get the 3 series, you can join a reps united forum :fuelfire:

 That's cold! At meets they go to a service station for lunch, make phone calls and compare marketing materials before hitting the motorway again.

No your right I couldnt turn my stubby in, this forum is the other problem I love it to much and would miss it. It wouldnt be the same posting on here without owning a Z4 :headbang:

The forum certainly adds something to the ownership experience.

What about a cheapish runabout for the odd time you are stuck in,

I'm toying with a cheapish motorway mile muncher for when we go away with bikes etc, if we end up changing the wife's Focus for a small runabout.

Looks like a lovely 330

Can I still have first dibs on the bluetooth and cruise?

I may even have the carbon off you as a package if you want hassle free transaction.

For slightly less than your 330 m sport I picked up this with the same approved used warrenty and inspection 2 carried out.

Five seats to keep the misses happy but even more fun than the Z, averaged 27.3mpg so far with 34 on a long run with the cruise control on and only an oil service due in 2 years or 15k miles so shouldn't cost much more than the 330 to run.

I could indeed understand a change to an M3 if you needed the seats. However, I would still go for the cheap runabout route. How often do you need 4 seats as you already have a car with 4 seats anyway?

To be honest, if you're barely getting to drive it, I completely understand why you would swap for something like that.
I agree with this and have always agreed that if me and the wife end up with our own kids, that two seater cars are a no-go. I'm the one that's suggested that before anyone yells "under the thumb!". I couldn't justify a vehicle which I could only drive by myself, leaving the wife and potential kiddies at home (although that does sound appealing lol). Not sure I could go for something as "ordinary" as a tarted up 3-series - sorry, despite it being a 330i M-Sport I still see it as a 3-series, but for some reason an M3 is a different kettle of fish!

How often do you need to carry bikes? Rather than buy a cheap runaround, what about something like a Citroen Berlingo or Renault Kangoo? Van versions are OK but the window versions (with 3 seats in the back) are awesome for biking. Can carry 3 bikes intact but still have yourself plus 2 passengers. Would be more versatile than a cheap runaround car and I'd probably have one in addition to my Z4 if we didn't have our VW Transporter van...

If you sell - sell privately - you know the sum you could achieve with/without the mods :)
End of the day, your not in a massive rush as such -

The vultures have started circuling on the bits, 3 PM's so far.

At this point in time I cannot justify a third car, one or other of them will not get used, and I havent really got anywhere to park a third car without boxing the Z4 in which means I wouldnt use it for waork as it's to much hassle. If it was a Z4 ///M it would be a different story as I wold keep it forever and if it only got driven a few weekends a year that's fine.

I had considered a E46 M3, my local dealer had a 2003 SMG with Nac ant BT for £16.5k with 33,000 miles on it, just spent £1,900 on service, brakes, etc. Now sold :(

In my head I think the 3 series is to plain and boring, this is probably what is stopping me, perhaps I should go back and look at E46 M3's

I'm inclined to agree, leave it if you have doubts.

As I see it, getting a new car should always be exciting... whether you're excited about the car itself, the money you'll save or what the new car will allow you to do.

That 330 is a lovely looking motor, but if you're not excited by any part of the prospect, it's not the right time!

Very true, I should've known better when I bought a 5-dr Astra 1.6 SXI and couldn't get enthusiastic about it in the least. Kept it only 5 months, doh...

Passed about 500 3 series on my way to the dealer this morning ... not a single Z. If you like blending in with the crowd in a car that is more popular then a Ford Mondeo then go ahear ... :poke:

If you do "the deed", don't forget to fit that Reinhold module to my car in return for all the help I have provided with your satnav  I won't even bother with a PM as I will have preferential treatment

If you're in any doubt I'd leave it.

this is the view I'm taking at present, if it becomes more of an issue then the decision will be easier as it will be 'forced' so to speak. I dont want to change my car and regret it.

As I see it also hopefully have 3-4 months of good weather ahea which should help if I did decide to sell.

I've just gone in the other direction. 330 Msport coupe to a Z4 coupe. Automatic so the wife can drive it too. I can still carry one child in the front in their booster seat, and my taxi duties are usually limited to taking one or other to one of their activities on the weekend.

The wife has her focus for practical stuff.

TBH the only thing I'll miss is having a 'nice' car for longer journies - eg to my parents or on holiday. Don't fancy the focus for that. So we'll probably upgrade her to an E46 saloon

Would it be a lot simpler if your wife could drive the Z4? Any reason she can't?

Wife was on insurance till last year although she has never driven any of my cars through fear of damaging them.

She wrote her zafira off on some black ice last year so was cheaper to insure mine without her this time round.

My partner passed her test in a car with manual box. But she has problem to use the clutch. The first Polo she bought was manual. The car stalled at traffic light, the gearchange was not smooth and timing was wrong too. So she had to bought her second Polo with autobox. She never asks to drive my car (not interested in cars at all), and I wouldn't let her to drive anyway. :)
