Navigator essential?

Hi,

First post at this eminent forum from a Swedish guy about to buy my first Z4. Been looking for a zed in Germany (to expensive in Sweden) now for a while.
Basic requirements are:

- E89, 2012 or 2013
- 28i (but 20i may be acceptable)
- sport seats
- seat heat
- alpine or mineral White (grey or red as second alternatives)

A 28i with the above usually costs around 40.000 EUR (approx £35.000). Now I have found one with less than 6K on the clock for 33.000 EUR ("low seasons price"), that seems like a real bargain. Only concern is that it lacks navigator. As I understand it this means more than just the navigator (which I won't use very often really), the nice big display is gone and so are the "iDrive" functions of it.

So, question for you experts, is the navigator (and iDrive) a real "must have", worth almost £6000 in this case? I could go for a 20i with this equipment at the same price, but I guess "engine size over accessories" is the way to think, right?

Depends if you like toys! :D

Was a must for me not because of the nav but the control of everything in the car plus its a cool little screen!

But to those prices! OUCH!

It's not worth what it costs. But it is still a nice piece of kit. Try one and decide for yourself, any BMW with it will be similar.

I would love to have it but it just costs way too much. I would just get a top end premium sat nav as a replacement if you need navigation.

You still lose out on the idrive which sucks. All the new BMW's including the 1 series come with a standard screen and a few nice features, unfortunately the zed doesnt.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. First in any selection process for me is engine choice - go for the 6 cylinder option and then starting looking at the extras :)

+1. But i wouldn't consider one without i-drive. Its excellent and provides much more than just nav.

I love the idrive system and wouldn't be without it, as said its not just nav it's a complete car information system.

Welcome

Nahh not me my 1st zd had major issues with its pop up display, 3 times it was replaced the last just after 3 yr wrty and after nearly having to pay over £1,000 for repair not on your nelly.
Android with copilot for me.
All my other 4 zds have not had it.

For me better to go for the bigger engine than the flashy toys get the basic best engine and newest than a loaded lower engine anyday. If it comes in Msport all the better as the seats are way improved on the basic model.

If you use a satnav all the time then its a consideration so is tomtom/ mobile phone, but I hardley used mine on the 1st it was good that no one could steal it with the top down. I do drive every day so having the best performing car was more important than the bling.

People are forgetting that new 6 pot is only available in the 35i and 35is which is out of 98% of peoples reach, 18, 20 and 28 are all 4 pots. Yeh I would love a 35i but for that price it would be a boxter and do it properly. Unless you want a +12 month old 30i

I am so glad I have dropped my old 6 pot 30i, never say never until you try it. Me I had no choice as the 30i is not available any more so no choice but I did dump the 30i 6 months early for a look at the future ion the 28i

Will be looking at E89's myself next year and wouldn't consider one without the Nav/idrive.
