I've bought my new water pump and thermostat that's now in the boot awaiting to be fitted, my mate who's a garage mechanic is going to fit it for me, I'm no good at mechanical projects! and always use him for all tech works to my Zed except for putting on and taking off the polish

The zed doesn't have any issues with the existing pump but as mileage is now just turned onto 73K thought lets get it done.
Just wondered how long does it usually take to do the job? and what if any problems/issues may be encountered? 5 Ltr's of coolant I've read on here somewhere. And yes the pump I've bought is the Pierburg one, spelling may be wrong :?

Any advice I can take with me while I wait and watch while my mate doe's the fit, thanks in advance.

First one I did took me 45 minutes to change plus another 20 to refill and bleed it. That was on a gravel drive with the front end up on ramps and included taking off and refitting the tray under the engine for access.

Oh that's quicker than I thought then, good and thanks. This will be done in a garage on ramps because he can use the business garage on a Sunday while closed.
What's involved to bleed and refill? is there a practice to follow and check?

Loads of threads in here about it.
I posted the method only a day or two back

Thank you just searched and found your advice to other OP
I am useless on my phone! Couldn’t find and paste it. Sorry.

Me again, I will be replacing the water pump next week and wondered did you replace the hoses too?? I have everything else but didn't get new hose's. Wsa thinking of just reconnecting the existing one's.

I didn't but then I have a vacuum filler so can drain coolant and check hoses for leaks.

I think all of the hoses are quick connect type, so unless they break at the connector they are quite robust. Be sure to apply a little silicone grease to the o rings when refitting and check they have not been damaged.

On both cars they have been a pig to get off; just work slow and steady and use sensible leverage to work them off. Once greased they come off very easily.

I didn't change any hoses and had no problems.

You also didn't spend half a day getting them off... unlike moi

Hence my fondness for the grease. Second time doing my F10 thermostat they disconnected like butter.

I kept my hoses, but replaced the o-rings in the quick connect ones

Sorry, didn't notice your post, I was replying to the one above it.
A couple were a bit tight. The U-shaped one on the back can be left attached to the pump and swapped on the bench.
Yes, I also use a bit of silicon spray, hoping it prevents the seals rolling as you push the connectors on.

Thank you for replies very helpful as if I needed new hoses, Sytner quoted £146 for the one and £40 for the other so

I wonder how many garages do. One of the main reasons I prefer to do my own work. Not just cheaper.

They're pretty solid hoses. If you don't have a vac filler (and compressor to run it) they're worth considering, especially if you'll be doing your coolant in future. The N52 is easy imho to bleed with the elec pump, but others can be a pig.

Update. New water pump and thermostat all fitted and working just fine. Work was done by COLB a fellow forum member who does lots of work to other Zed owners in his Zedshed. So all thanks to him  Zed is currently on 73K below what others have said these pumps die but I now have peace of mind and it's ready to go another 100K possibly either in my ownership or the next.

Back to the zedshed again today and now had the expansion tank replaced too so just more peace of mind about these parts that Ive heard about on here that fail. Thanks COLB

Will be doing the same job next Saturday and just wanted to check how much coolant I’ll need to get it done.

I think I just got 3 bottles from BMW. But G48 might be cheaper, just get a concentrated bottle and mix 50/50 with tap water.
