perfect, thanks!
Sorry was out so didn't have easy access to the manual:

17 00 Coolant, Cooling System Test E85 / E86 / N52
Coolant volume (incl. heating) MT Litres
Coolant volume (incl. heating) AT Litres
with integrated Air conditioning MT Litres 7.6
with integrated Air conditioning AT Litres 8.4
Top-up quantity for thermostat removal and installation Litres 2.0
Test pressure for cooling system (excess pressure) bar 1.5

5 litres of conc G48 or two 5 litre ready mix will do you. Or 3 bottles of BMW, grab whatever works out cheapest.

Also called: BMW Lifetime Coolant 87 (BMW LC-87)

It all depends on how much escapes while your swapping over the parts. I bought 2 x bottles from BMW each had one and half litres of coolant that had to be diluted with one and half Ltrs of water, so That gave me 6 Ltrs in total, It required for my N52, is Five and half Ltrs Max.

But I caught most into a bucket and to be fair it looked in great condition so I reused a lot after fitting. After Bleeding it took about 3 Ltrs of new that included a top up after the car had been driven for an hour, because when I checked the level the following day it had dropped. Keep checking the level when cold after each drive. Air locks.

I have now 10 litres, should be enough for the pump and thermostat replacement. Thanks everyone for the input
