My z4 3.0 project thread (lots of pics)

No thinking about this it has to be

If you look at the pic both halfs are as bright as each other

The inner half isn't that bright with just sides on

Yup, if the BFD is disabled for the UK I bet BMW still put dual filament bulbs in as standard. I thought it was enabled though, just like the facelift ? Anyhoo, seems you are sorted :D

So the cold air intake is fitted, it fits perfect and according to a friends it sounds good
It's made a little bit of a difference in the cabin

I will try and get a video of the noise soon

It feels quicker aswell although I'm not sure if that is just placebo lol

Anyway on with the pics

Firstly I changed a bit:

Plastidipped the metal part that goes onto the maf:

20121113_191009_zpsbd240f19.jpg

And glued some rubber to the part that connects to the oem scoop:
20121113_190940_zpsbeefb8cd.jpg

And just touched up some of the clear coat that was damaged:

Here is the engine bay before:

After:

20121119_170307_zpsadfd92cb.jpg

It bolts straight onto where the oem air box did:

I needed to use a bit of silicon pipe to attach on to the maf with jublee clips:

Also I fitted a zhp gear knob,

After:
20121119_170104_zps38c85cdf.jpg

The zhp feels soo much nicer and has a nice weight to it

Next thing is to fit my rogue engineering short shifter:

Which means I will have the oem z4 3.0 up for sale soon if anyone wants it

Thanks for looking

What or how does this short shifter work please?

The distance between the pivot ball and the selector rod is shortened

So your hand doesn't travel as far during gear changes

Quickening up gear shifts in theory

That's great. How much and what's involved?

Once I have it fitted I will post up pics of how much it shortens up the shift

It was actually quite expensive, £150 from ca automotive

Fitting should be simple, should take around 30 mins. You just need small hands and a lot of patients lol

You need to remove the gear seal to the under side of the car. Squeeze your hand in or swipe nose pliers to remove the clip that holds the bottom of the leaver to the selector rod
pull it out then reverse others for the new one

It just the gap you are working through is the issue lol I have to psyche myself up for it lol

You could do it from under the car but that would be a nightmare, remove exhaust, heat shield and maybe drive shaft

How much difference did the short shifter end up making? Sounds like a decent mod

Its diffrent, shorter throw between gears and takes a few gear shifts to get used to

But ive got used to it now and I think it makes it feel alot better

My hand sits alot lower now 1-2 and definitely 3-4 is quicker and less movment in your hand

Get a video up or photos of where the stick sits now when in gears, would be interesting to see the difference because I think the throw on each movement is quite far, might not be helped by the standard gear knob on mine. I was about to buy a zhp one but the website has stopped trading currently which is very annoying

Zhp is nice and short compares to the stock one

I will take photos of 3 to 4 measured from the back edge of the ash tray tomorrow

Just had a good read of this thread from start to finish.

Made great reading as some great photos to visualise.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Going to look into Laminx for my lights now. And posted on your other topic about if ur making any more key covers ;)

So a long while since an update...

Yesterday I finally installed my 330 calipers (actually from an x5) fully refurbed including pistons

So it now has 325mm rotors instead of 300mm

Fitted with ebc red stuff pads

A few pics, sorry about dirty wheels but pics were taken after bedding in lol

Tonights little tweak too much time on my hands,

Orange front rad cross brace, to go with the calipers and the ginger head lights

Looks better in real light but pics:
