My Number Plate has been cloned

Lol, what was their response?

I had my front number plate ripped off my Audi S8 (stuck on, not screwed) while on my drive last year the night before I was driving 550 miles up to the Highlands! Phoned Essex police and told them about the journey I'm taking early the next morning. They said a nationwide alert is put on my plate so when I pass through some ANPR cameras, I'll most likely be intercepted wherever I am just incase I'm sporting the stolen plate. He said to take all my logbook and documents with me on the journey so when I get pulled over, it can be sorted out. Not something I was keen on doing! Also meant I had to keep my speed at [roughly  ] 70mph most of the way. :|

Must admit it did look mean without a front plate, but found a Halfrauds up in Scotland and got a new plate made asap. I guess a V10 Audi is not a commonly cloned car lol, and the plate was 'S8 xxx', but was still bloody annoying none the less. Whoever ripped it off left the rear plate though for whatever reason. I like to think it was probably just some kids sodding around though.

However, I wasn't pulled over once on the whole 10 hour journey and passing through about a dozen ANPR zones... not sure whether that's a good or bad thing :|

Nothing they can do unless the police go to them with evidence. Luckily not an issue as cleared up with police.

It's so easy to order plates on line though without documentation, so that part of the system doesn't work.

Isn't ANPR generally reading the front plate which in your case, was missing? :D

Yep, Bing is driving around in a £10 on line jobbie without paperwork

I ordered some as well, legal but with small writing containing the seller and their postcode. Need them for a little project (legal project  )

Also shows what a load of crap us (lawabidingfolk) having to present V5's passports, photo ID getting plates is all about!
Another great law ill thought out and implemented!

We're all law abiding, its just so much easier [and cheaper] to buy on-line rather than faff round with the like of halfrauds

So today I get home and open a letter from CP Plus as my car, a Black BMW Z4M according to their paperwork has exceeded the free parking period at MOTO Wetherby services. Again the time is similar to the last report 01:50-06:23.

This time though I have a picture

I presume as I have clear evidence I should contact them. Would you agree?

I will also contact the police again because I am dubious as to whether it is actually a foreign vehicle or not. The only good thing is that it's not a black Z4.

Always thought you were a dodgy character, once is unlucky. Twice? Hmmm…..

Picture looks more like a Coupe to me

Quick Google and it appears it could be Romanian

Well it's happened again :headbang:

Was only watching about the Dartford crossing and the 300,000 fines issued in the last three months and I get one through the door this morning.

Of course it is my Romanian friend as I have a nice photo of his white Renault Van.

Meant to be going over the crossing tomorrow so that will no doubt confuse matters and it has prompted me not to open an account which would save me money, because if I do then this van would get to cross for free and my account would be debited which of course I would never get back.

Got to fill out the form now. I'm going to advise then that I will ignore all future claims or charge a £25 admin fee myself unless the vehicle is mine.

Really tempted to put the plate on retention for a while if this carries on. :x

Surely this has to be happening to other people too ?

You'd have thought there was some human checking too, when it's clearly not a black vehicle in the photo...

That must be frustrating, SRH. At least you have proof it's not you. If the machines can detect the number plate, you'd have thought they could also see the colour....

It happened to me a few months back, you could see in the photo it wasn't my reg number. I did try to call and also looked online to see if i could settle the issue but to no avail. Had to write off to them, i said for them to check the photo in the pic, its not that difficult. Not heard a thing from them, if it happens again i'll ignore it and let them take me to court

It does make you wonder if you ignored it what would they do next. Problem is its probably an automated process that kick out the next stage rather than somebody looking at the photo and realising what happened.
