I had my front number plate ripped off my Audi S8 (stuck on, not screwed) while on my drive last year the night before I was driving 550 miles up to the Highlands! Phoned Essex police and told them about the journey I'm taking early the next morning. They said a nationwide alert is put on my plate so when I pass through some ANPR cameras, I'll most likely be intercepted wherever I am just incase I'm sporting the stolen plate. He said to take all my logbook and documents with me on the journey so when I get pulled over, it can be sorted out. Not something I was keen on doing! Also meant I had to keep my speed at [roughly  ] 70mph most of the way. :|
Must admit it did look mean without a front plate, but found a Halfrauds up in Scotland and got a new plate made asap. I guess a V10 Audi is not a commonly cloned car lol, and the plate was 'S8 xxx', but was still bloody annoying none the less. Whoever ripped it off left the rear plate though for whatever reason. I like to think it was probably just some kids sodding around though.
However, I wasn't pulled over once on the whole 10 hour journey and passing through about a dozen ANPR zones... not sure whether that's a good or bad thing :|

We're all law abiding, its just so much easier [and cheaper] to buy on-line rather than faff round with the like of halfraudsToe-side said:Also shows what a load of crap us (lawabidingfolk) having to present V5's passports, photo ID getting plates is all about!
Another great law ill thought out and implemented!![]()

You'd have thought there was some human checking too, when it's clearly not a black vehicle in the photo...

It happened to me a few months back, you could see in the photo it wasn't my reg number. I did try to call and also looked online to see if i could settle the issue but to no avail. Had to write off to them, i said for them to check the photo in the pic, its not that difficult. Not heard a thing from them, if it happens again i'll ignore it and let them take me to court
