My New To Me Z4

Hey guys and girls. Went out and bought a 2.5 Z4 yesterday. Am not able to pick it up until Tuesday at the earliest as it goes in for its MOT tomorrow morning. Fantastic car to drive and aside from the odd parking dent it looks great for a 2004 car. I'm coming from an e60 535d which caused me no end of problems so wanted something a bit more fun and a bit more 'sensible'. The only pics I have are the ones from the dealers website but will obviously putting loads up when it's back home. I don't plan to do much to it other than fit an aux input and enjoy it.

Looks a beaut well done

....x2 but get the floor mays changed

Lol thanks everyone. I will be getting the floor mats changed as well :), and the antenna. I've got too used to having the fin on the roof.

A quick question for you Z4 veterans. I found the PDF technical manual kindly posted by another member on here. It mentioned the convenience mode where you hold the 'open' button on the fob and it automatically opens the roof. Is that standard fit to all fully electric roof cars or a coding/user option I need to get unlocked? Didn't know about it yesterday so couldn't try it and am just wondering.

Thanks all, and proper pictures soon :) am off to wales then Lancashire in a couple of weeks so will get some good shots up there hopefully

Hi mate

Regarding opening the roof from the key, I can't do it on mine 2003 3.0. So I don't think it's on all models.
It may be able to be programmed (if yours doesn't either) but I've not looked into it.

Other option is to purchase a Gaptech RCH.

Hope this helps

Thanks Dan,

Tried it out when it wasn't raining, it doesn't work on mine. I got to go to BMW tomorrow anyway so I'll ask if they can just unlock it for me or will look at the Gaptech RCH. I think I saw a video on youtube from them with the Z4, something like 3 presses of the unlock button it opens, then closes after 3 presses on the lock button.

Thanks though!!

If yours is 2003 you'll need a GapTech module.

Go up to the car and unlock the drivers door with the key. Hold the key in the unlock position and the hood should open. If it does it by key (ie doesn't work by holding the unlock button on the remote), you need the GapTech for remote opening

Beautiful looking Zed in that colour and with those wheels - great choice!

:driving:

Thank you. Wasn't overly fussed about the colour but wanted anything that wasn't black. My e60 was black and I had 2 people go in the back of it within 6months so didn't fancy tempting fate. I really liked the darker silver but a lot of those didn't have the wheels I wanted.

Had the car for 5 days now. Absolutely love it, getting a steady 27mpg according to the cars OBC. Have a couple of things I want to change but that's just personal preference. Want to get the AUX Cable in, and also swap out the brake pads for some EBC Greenstuff ones as the brakes don't fill me with an awful lot of confidence, but that could just be where I'm used to the dinner plates that were on my old e60. Also wish the fuel tank was a bit larger, 260miles to a tank isn't great but again I'm used to an 80litre tank lol.

Car drives like a dream, I am so happy with it. Have the common issue of the alarm going off every time its locked at random time intervals but have ordered a new bonnet micro-switch from BMW so that will hopefully solve that. If not it'll be back to the dealer to try and get them to deal with it, as it wouldn't have appeared the day I bought it. Also the passenger window doesn't 'one touch' up. It goes down fine and works perfectly with the roof but will not 'one touch' up from either switch. I could be being really dumb but both switches do feel like they have two functions to them physically so not too sure where to start with that one!

Thanks everyone for the replies. There are some truly nice cars on here and will look forward to meeting some of you along the way. So glad I chose the Z4, makes me smile every time I get behind the wheel!

Thanks Adamski, tried the key in the door lock and it opens and shuts the hood. Will look into GapTech for the remote open/close.

Thanks again

So I promised some photos over a week ago so forgive me for not posting any. Work and life has been manic and I've been having too much fun :driving:

Anyways. Went out for the regular Sunday morning stroll with the gf at the local country park and got this shot:

And then off to lunch at the local restaurant. And yes I am one of the mad ones that has their roof down in winter. My general rule is that if it's above 4° then it is roof down weather..... The heated seats work a treat though :)

Anyways, know that these photos aren't much but there will be more :)

Glad you've had a chance to get the roof down so soon :)

Just to update you on the roof opening from key, as I mentioned mine didn't do this, however after a trip to Ben in London from bmkeys (on eBay) whilst he was creating me 2 spare keys I asked him to check options for the roof on the key, a couple of tick boxes later and I'm now able to do it from the key. So it is just a coding option
