OK said I would post up a few pics of my Z replacement. . . for pics etc of my old car see http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=55316 . . .

Anyway managed to get a bit of time today which is rare for me. So cleaned the car and finally did something I wasn't ever able to do with the Z which was to go out and take a few pics with my DSLR. Enough waffling onto the car.

She is a mk5 R32 Golf, 3.2 V6 manual with 45k on the clock. Mechanically sound just needs a few small body imperfections sorting out. Onto the pics hope you all like. . .

Nice, they make a good noise don't they?

When we had a mk5 gti we always felt it was a bit heavy, how do you find the r32 as I've never driven one
 
Thanks flimper I do like my photography aswel as my cars few came out ok.

itguy - They do make the best sound even in standard the exhaust note is so sporty! I was looking for a GTI also but when I drove on R32 it had to be that model. They are heavy cars and the V6 doesn't help. Very planted though and the AWD is really good pulling and pushing it round corners with confidence. Its quick but doesn't feel overly quick either (well compared to my old Impreza STi) although understand completely different beasts. However the grunt is better in the golf and more comfortable to live with day in day out.

DanStarr - :lol: :roll: I think I should take it back if thats not how the bonnet is meant to look!! :wink:

Won,t go down too well on here but i thought the V6 3.2 i had sounded better & had more torque/throttle response than the straight 6 3.0 BMW engine i had in the Zcoupe :o :?
 
Thank you Mr Wilks I agree the sound is really good. The rasp this has as you go up the rev range makes me grin each time! Horses for courses really what people want and look for. Loved the old Z specially in phoenix yellow but time was right to move on. As you said the throttle and response from the lump is really good.

Actually you may be able to help me if at all possible. I have a set of 108's that are in desperate need of a refurb but all straight and true. They are wearing Bridgestone Potenza RE050 run flats. The tyres on them are really good condition with lots of tread left on all of them. Have seen wheels needing a refurb go for 150-200 area just wondered what the options are with tyres? Know might limit potential buyers but if people buy them for the tyres and move the rims on sure still money in it etc or would I be better off splitting?

Cracking looking car and great pictures :thumbsup:

My brother in law has one and they do sound great. I actually had to drive it back from a wedding the other week. And i found it very agile for the size. And the engine is :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
 
Thanks MM pics came out ok. They hide a few of the imperfections but will be getting those niggles sorted soon.

Was tempted to get a new exhaust but im worried id lose that sound it produces at the moment for just a wall of noise! The rasp at the moment is more than enough! They do drive well and very planted when pushing on.

I like those, I nearly bought one in metallic blue but was a bit pricey at the time from a VW dealer. Always liked a big engine in a small practicable hatch :)

These sound absolutely epic. Proper supercar-esque noise. Beautiful.

Those tyres don't appear to be a decent brand! Are they ditchfinders?
 
Would love one as a daily driver. Subtle enough to park up down at the supermarket, but sharp enough to scare the usual twats in their Octavia VRS :thumbsup:
 
Thanks for the kind words I am really pleased with the car for what it is not what it's trying to be. People look at it's just another golf till you blip the throttle it is a moment to smile!

The tyres a mixed bag, one of the reasons I managed to knock the price down as different tread pattern on the rears!!! :o . I'm not really stretching it or pushing it and new wheels and tyres will be sourced over the next month so stop gap.
 
Always liked these but vowed not to get another hot hatch when my house was broken into for my GTI keys.

If it,s the Maxxis Victra tyres you,re having a pop at then you should try them out before slating them :wink: I landed a pair by chance on a set of wheel,s i bought to refurb & they were the wrong sizes at 245 40 18 but perfect for our A6 Avant , they had 7mm on matching pair so i had them fitted to the front wheel,s & after 3k can only say good things , they grip well on a big FWD car in wet & dry , there is minimal road noise & so far are showing no sign,s of any visible wearing .
No idea what they cost in regards to bigger brands but i wouldn,t class them as ditchfinders :|

Always good to know about the tyres. Was more different tread pattern each side on the rear but all are decent. On the list to sort anyway.

Thanks again for all the good words shame I never sorted some nice pics of my old Z sorted too at some point.

I remember you saying this to me regards the sound of the straight 6 in the bmw and you are spot on :thumbsup: and I still struggle to understand why a straight six engine is so highly rated if I am honest because all of the V6`s I have owned(four of them) In the past have all sounded better and that includes the S54 too :oops:

I suppose as always its just personal preference but I have had three straight sixes but I much prefer a V6 configuration...a V8 is even better though and I would love to own a V12 one day.

I have never been disappointed whenever I have heard a R32 being opened up they do sound great :driving:
 
Is it any coincidence that the V sounds a lot better than the flat or straight but is also quite a lot less economical?
