My new number plate

mockup of the plate I've just bought from DVLA - cant wait to get it and put it on the car :)
what do you guys reckon?

BMw O Z FOuR I think ?

I'm not sure anyone following you would actually pick that out though Marlon, but hey its your car, you have what you want fella.

Perhaps one of the ZZZ plates or even BM 04 ZED may have been a little more disctinctive ?

You couldnt have MAR 10N as thats already on a White 2011 Range Rover

Hi Numbers5, BM 04 ZED isn't available - well not on the DVLA site. Where have you seen it for sale?
Cheers
Marlon

If you like plates that read as the model of your car, this is as good as most  For those following who can't read it, hard luck :P

Cheers, its one of those isn't it - you either get it straightaway or think what the hell is it saying.
I'm not sure myself if it works, particularly given the luke warm responses so far. Anyway I have 10 days to decide :)

I've cancelled my purchase, in hindsight the plate was too obscure to be read - a fact backed up by the feedback (or lack of it) from this thread. I am considering several others and will post pics once I have decided which one. Hopefully it will read better :)

I bought my plate in 1991 for £250 from DVLA - not sure what it's worth ( hopefully at least the same amount ) - just my initials but I reckon it looks good on the zed - wouldn't appeal to anyone other than Alowishus Everard Higginbottom who I know was born on June 3rd

Nice neat plate you have there - like u say there are lots of DLVA ones £250. I have to admit I'm a bit obsessed when it comes to finding good value interesting plates. I've had many over the years, some were my initials, others were car specific. Taking my time to source the best plate I can find without paying silly money.

I had mine from my last car. My user name on all the forums has been Dazols my plate is D12OLS its the closest I could get. But my family dont get it

How about MA20 LON

http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/search/results.html?search=MARLON&action=prefix&pricefrom=0&priceto=&prefixmatches=5&currentmatches=&limitprefix=&limitcurrent=&limitauction=&searched=true&openoption=yes&language=en&prefix2.x=0&prefix2.y=0&super=v+oom&super_pricefrom=0&super_priceto=

Reserve of £400 in auction - no Idea how the auctions work - but could be worth a punt :)

Looks good to me.

Mrs G has tried talking me into buying JG08BMW a couple of times. But I'm far to stingy to shell out on a personalized plate.

Nice plate well spotted, bit too rich for my pocket though cos I reckon it will soar in the auction?

MA20LON wont be released until 2020 and you couldn't put it on an old Zed either.

Coming up at the next DVLA Auction is MAR20N which would be far better and bidding starts at £400. It can also go on any vehicle built after 1974

Ive always bought from DVLA, Either direct or via their auctions. Always got good value and never sold one for less than ive paid.

My daughter Harriets plate on my last Zed (her nickname is Hats)

My son Oliver's (initials OJ) plate currently on my Alpina until he's 18.

I Didnt pay 4 figures for any of them either. I work in ANPR so plates fascinate me anyway !
The basic rules are the less digits the better as it stands out and a non-year plate is generally better than a recent year plate. People often think my cars are about 2 - 3 years old and are shocked when you tell them its 10+ years old. Non-year plates do wonders to conceal age and value !

Interesting stuff, yeh of course your right - the 20 plate isn't gonna work, interesting MAR20N suggestion. Im after a car specific plate this time and have just about narrowed down my search. I will post a mockup once I have finally decided. I like car specific plates, for my previous car: an Audi A4 SLine on a 56 plate, I found SL56 AUD again bought from DVLA (£250). I agree, I would always buy from DVLA, many of the other sites sell DVLA plates but advertise them without VAT and transfer fee to make them look cheaper when in fact they end up more expensive. I like the plates you've bought for your children

Mine was £50 cheaper from the DVLA then on some cheap plate sites due to the vat and transfer fee not being added. Plus its peace of mind knowing its a legit plate. The only extra i paid on top was to have the plates made up. It was all in for £499

Thanks GreyZed, I had considered Irish dateless plates and checked out many that include Z4, the last link you sent was a new one I hadn't come across before so thanks I will add it to the pot :)

Hi GreyZed,

I notice that 2 out of the 3 plates you linked have now sold.
Looks like dateless Irish 'Z4' plates are selling fast!
I actually bought an dateless Irish plate in the end so thanks for the suggestion (not one of the ones you linked me). Its 3 letters and 3 numbers so cost a bit more.
I will post pics once the transfer is completed and its on my car :driving:
