My ///M value...

I just can't believe how cheap these cars are in the UK! £13.5k GBP is €16000 Euros. They sell for a minimum of €24k over here.

Remember when E30 M3 were £5 to 8k 10 yrs ago and no one wanted them. Well I think that what is hapening to the Z4M now.

And we all know the rest of the story from then.

If you can, just put that stunning red MC away under a blanket in a barn and declare SORN. Drive it in 10 yrs time and revel in the magic.

They are cheap because of a combination of factors from the economy, concerns over fuel prices, the high tax bracket for the ///M, high service costs and high insurance. Some of it more perceived than actual. I also wonder if right now they are stuck between being old 'new' cars and not yet gradulated to classic status.

At £13k I'd swap without breaking a bead of sweat worrying about the £5 to £6k extra, but woudl be adding £1,000 per annum in bills on top of the price to change.

Whenever I have sold cars privately - just sold two and then bought the ZMR I have never expected to achieve the advertised price. I always price somewhere in the middle of advertised cars and get a price from a dealer for stock so I have an actual figure to work up from. You should definitely put a detailed add without any flowery words on pistonheads - I have sold a lot of cars on there and not advertised anywhere else. Your mileage is the killer unfortunately - its a weird thought process though as this mileage on an M3 (same engine) is nothing to worry about and cars sell all day long but on the Z its a big down factor, I think its because people view them as 'special weekend' cars. Personally I think you are mad not to have accepted a £13k offer (or tried a £200 uplift) if that was genuine cash on the table and not a I will be back and all of a sudden its £12k - I have had that before! £13k from £13.5k is a good price to achieve. Its all about timing and waiting, I am not knocking you just saying what I see. GL

that's why the 3.0 is a better choice as a daily (imho).

That's one of the reasons I have stuck with my 3.0 for over 5 years.
I also have to share my limited funds across many toys.

TBH I would give it a good detail and get some decent pictures.

Those pics really dont do it justice, the first image looks like the wheel has a good bit of curbing, and im guessing due to the lens on the camera the front wheel looks like it has positive camber and the arch gap is higher than the front. Probably because its not on a flat surface?

I dont think having pics with snow in them really shows that much care either. The people looking for these cars are anal, if it seems the car is left out in the elements... probably not but may seem so to someone that isnt from the forum. The interior shots shot with harsh flash makes the seats, steering wheel and gear stick look really shiny. They probably aren't as you describe but this is an effect of using direct flash. With higher milage people expect the interior to ware and the pics look like that. Again shoot in natural light.

The pics are also dark in poor light, get it in the sun get a decent camera out and shoot it in an appealing place. Also have a look at some of the other enthusiast descriptions and really try and sell the car. Even look at Pazas original thread he really went to lengths to sell the car.

You know what people are like from your own experience with buying cars. You scrutinise every possible detail of the car, the ad is your starting point and if it doesn't scream desirability then the interest decreases. Pics are probably the the most important. Really important and getting them right, in good light making the Imola red scream off the screen.

Im not trying to have a go just a bit of help to make the car look more desirable. GLWTS

stressful time for you woody, been there a few times, you will get genuine viewers and dreamers and downright chancers, your car looks a good one , yes , mileage getting higher but traders have them at higher miles and more money. how long have you had it and how much did you pay, all down to how much you can stand the loss, i mean in your head not your wallet, sometimes better to forget it and get rid and move on. have you aked a dealer what he would buy it for cash for, thats worth doing because its normally such a shite insult of an offer that it makes any other private offers seem a lot better. paid 9100 for my z3mr and got 8100 after 5 years ownership from a genuine private buyer who loved the car and loved the way I had looked after it. a local specialist car dealer no names mentioned but is in Truro and rhymes with Prichard, after showing interest several times in the car offered me 5000, tosser ! unfortunately the 4m is a bit different as they are still in the depreciating group based on age, mileage and condition whereas the 3m was 14 yrs old so a bit more of a classic when it came to selling. if i sold my z4mc now iwould be lucky i think to get 2k less than I paid a year ago.hope this helps ease yr mind , dont know if you are exiting the forum for good but you have been a major presence on her and will be missed by all. best regards, mad4. ps you could .....also....KEEP THE Z !!!

Absolutely. Almost £500 a year in tax before you've done anything is very hard to stomach, and something you have no control over if they decided to start charging £600, or £700.

Fuel prices and the fuel economy combined makes for a huge expense, meaning cost-wise it's far more sensible to opt for the 3.0si if you're doing any sort of mileage. Then, if you do low mileage, you feel the £500 a year in tax is horrendous. It goes in circles.

High insurance and service costs are certainly a factor, but less so than the others. mmm-five has provided a useful website on several occasions which helps drive the servicing costs down, and the majority of us are old enough now that insurance is low enough for the difference to be much smaller.

Personally Woody, I would revise the advert you have, and adjust what you're saying on here. You've said you had a few offers of £13k, yet it's now for sale at £13k and hasn't sold. The pictures aren't helping the sale of the car either, and personally would stick to facts rather than lengthy opinion and detail. When I look for a car, I'd like to see (in order):

- Mileage
- MOT Date
- Tax Date
- Exterior Colour (with the proper name)
- Interior Colour (with the proper name)
- Standard Equipment (for those not so au fait with the car)
- Optional Equipment
- FULL Service History
- Location (First part of your postcode)
- Any recent routine work you've had undertaken (tyres, brakes, etc - big items that people commonly look for)

Car is now sold:
