My First Watch

Nice AP, Watches are just as much a money pit as cars, service costs etc :(

But at least with watches they get used every day :)

Thanks, yes they can be but as I don't wear my watches too often I tend to buy quartz movements. I have a couple of automatics and that's where the big servicing costs come in. But an automatic watch sent for a service will have done around 22.5k miles in movement, when you think at what intervals cars need to be serviced and the costs you can see why it costs what I does to service a watch.hey are very intricate pieces of engineering.

Plus if your buying a watch in the high thousands, you've got to expect the servicing costs to be similar to buying a very expensive car

My 30th is not till June but I recently 'treated' myself to a new watch. I collect watches but never wear them however this baby cost quite a bit and I thought it was a shame to leave it sat in a box but also think about how much it cost makes me think why on earth am I wearing it??????

This was supposed to be my only treat until I ordered a custom trunk from LV, a new bag oh and a 35is

Stunning Angie

An AP Royal Oak carbon would be top of my list if I ever came into some big money

Thanks  the other half is always toying with a Carbon AP but the cost of replacing the case if it cracked keeps putting him off. He wears his watch no matter what so when he's in the engine bay it's on much to the horror of some no matter what he's wearing, usually his sea dweller.

But APs are beautiful watches and people who are not into watches don't have a clue. So far most people have thought its a Omega or a Rolex I have

Sorry copied from web as my camera skills are non existant. 50th Birthday gift from my lovely lady wife.

Very lucky man! This is my favourite Tag at the moment. I've considered buying this for my Dads 60th in April but I know he doesn't like the size. I fear if I try it on I may want it for myself even if I am a female.

Ye a watch is a pretty important item of clothing in my mind. Would love to buy one just can't afford it atm.

Have my eye on a Tag Carrera

I've the Calibre 16 with metal strap for daily use and I think they still look great

I have that one with metal strap and without the word Monaco also have a tag aquagraph with diving straps. After buying this watch I swore I would never spend a lot of money on one again as it wasn't very reliable but I got an inheritance and wanted something to remember my nan and grandad. Amazed how much I got off it. (Nearlly a grand) by haggling from goldsmiths

That said you van get the fake ones from Turkey for £100 and my steps sons friend has one and it's a very good copy and 2 years later still going strong

Its not huge and I think would look very nice indeed on a female wrist :D

Hey Breaker, I really like this gearbox watch, looks an ideal everyday watch, saving my others for special occasions etc. how are you getting on with it? Any thing you dislike? I am close to buying one, possibly the stealth edition.

To add to a new but growing collection I doubled my Omega Count with this

1965 Omega Crosshair Seamaster which has been recently serviced - it's small but IMHO it's lovely - i fell in love with the font and the cross hairs- yes it's polished not as per collectors want but I plan to wear it with a suit[/quote]

Cheers Stan, but I've moved onwards and upwards since those days :)

Saved for ages to get this and treated myself..

Some nice pieces indeed 8)
My indulgence was a Breitling for my 40th that i still like as much today as i did when i bought it , which is just as well as i don,t see myself spending that kind of money again on a watch :? too many other things ahead of luxury,s for me i,m afraid

Back to the op. saw one of these watch in the flesh (well several of them) in a shop window in Nantes late last year, changed my opinion of them when I saw in the flesh. Very nice.

Re replacement batteries, i use the local jeweller in town for my longines last time, £6 instead of the £60 being quoted by Earnst and Jones goldsmiths etc, did it on the day while I waited rather than having to send it away.

Had this one for years. Back to OP, I'm surprised so many under 30 still wearing watches. After all, it's only a single function device.

Soo annoyed today as I took my Reymond Weil Parsifal in for a new battery in January and I've received it back yesterday... running at half speed! How the hell does that happen?? SO its going back with a rather furious owner because if they try the whole 'oh its faulty' thing with me... no its not, it just ran out of battery, was working fine, and now you give me back a half speed watch!!!

Is that the good lady's watch ?

May be a single function device, but a nice watch is a status symbol....and as such, for the same reason as prestige cars, they'll always be desired.

I see somebody with a sony smart watch the other day, and as cool and useful as it was. I dont think I would wear it over my b&r

Best thing was google maps on your wrist
