My First Watch

My first watch is the Seiko 5. Most prolific automatic watch ever made. Racer version.

OK Guys some options for you - I'm thinking of a Christopher Ward watch for an upcoming Birthday I'm slithering

C7 BlueBird - Quartz Limited Edition (isn) -500 pounds

http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/sport/c7sbkb-390-bb.html

C700 Grand Rapide Carbon Fiber - 900 pounds

http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/sport/c700/c700sksi.html

C1000 -Typhoon Ceramic

http://www.christopherward.co.uk/new-arrival/c1000-kkkn-lv.html

your thought are appreciated - I already have an Omega 300m so i fancy something different as a second watch - Im quite tempted by the thought that the C700 and C7 can be purchased for the same price as the C1000 - Typhoon.

The watch, which is powered by a modified version of ETA's 7750 chronograph movement, is the first in our entire collection to have a high-tech ceramic case, making the C1000 Typhoon light yet virtually indestructible. Built around a titanium sub-frame for additional strength, the ceramic used is one of the most advanced composites in the world and at seven times stronger than steel, only a diamond will make a mark on the durable and highly scratch-resistant surface.

Im a little put off by the C700 as it seems to be in stock with the old logo on it - perhaps its proved to be unpopular. advice of the ladies and gents of the forum welcome

I'd go C700 out of the above (although i know i dont know much about Christopher Ward). The C7 looks too Tag inspired & the C1000 looks too much like an IWC ..the C700 is an auto & just looks more attractive, has a nice display case back too.

If you're spending upward of a grand i'd seriously consider the Speedmaster Pro. Ok, its another Omega but you have a dive watch & the 'Moonie' is a sports chrono, both worthy additions to a collection. The Speedy looks good on a leather strap too- think Clooney in 'The American'! Its a timeless design with great heritage but, at the end of the day its all about personal preference

Thats on my list as well - I almost bought a speedmaster rather than the 300m but was thinking of broadening my horizons next time round - but i like speedmasters

ZermattV, I like the look of the c1000 and like the ceramic case

Im not really into either of the other two

ZermattV, the C7 or the C1000 for me. Not sure about the c/f style bracelet on the C700... Though I do like the clear back casing.

the C700 can be ordered with a plain black leather strap instead- thanks for the comments and suggestions

Bought mine last month from a Jewellers in Blackburn for 2990, cheapest I could find from a reputable watch specialist but prices vary. I never wore the Monaco Steve McQueen that I sold to buy this watch which I wear every day now. Great watch

Tim.

Was that iconicwatches.co.uk? Been trying to get deb into Watches, but she doesnt get it! Looked at some pre-owned Rolex yesterday and she said none of them took her fancy. Then today we walked past an Omega boutique and this was in the window:

http://www.omegawatches.com/collection/de-ville/ladymatic/co-axial-34-mm/42532342060001
http://www.iconicwatches.co.uk/omeg...-60-001.html?gclid=CJWXp4zQg7sCFbB9OgodnG8AKA and she liked it!

Went into the shop but they ignored us cos they were busy...then another salesperson appeared and started serving someone who'd come in after us, so Deb said lets leave! I wanted a US$ price, but that didn't work. Flying home on Friday and they have "black Friday" sales on (day after thanksgiving)...wonder if the Omega boutique (at another mall) have sales?

So I looked online and found the above link.

No it was Humberstones Jewellers Kevin,

http://www.humberstonesjewellers.co.uk/

They have a nice range of new and seconhand Rolex's, Omega, Tag etc

Yeah its a real stunner. Beaverbrooks only had 1 in the country in Nov when I got it. Felt every bit more special for the rarity.

My 30th is not till June but I recently 'treated' myself to a new watch. I collect watches but never wear them however this baby cost quite a bit and I thought it was a shame to leave it sat in a box but also think about how much it cost makes me think why on earth am I wearing it??????

This was supposed to be my only treat until I ordered a custom trunk from LV, a new bag oh and a 35is

Soo annoyed today as I took my Reymond Weil Parsifal in for a new battery in January and I've received it back yesterday... running at half speed! How the hell does that happen?? SO its going back with a rather furious owner because if they try the whole 'oh its faulty' thing with me... no its not, it just ran out of battery, was working fine, and now you give me back a half speed watch!!!

I assume this was sent back to Reymond Weil? My dad a few years back took a Tag into Ernest Jones who are an authorised dealer for a battery replacement and a service, wasn't cheap and was away for a good month or so to Tag as requested. Gets it back, goes on holiday and goes for a swim and the watch fills with water. Not happy come home, takes it back to Ernest Jones with his invoice etc for service and battery replacement and cost for sending to Tag and they send it back to Tag to be looked at.

A couple of weeks pass and my Dad is contacted directly by Tag to be advised that they didn't service his watch, it was never sent to them. Turn out Ernest Jones decided to service this themselves in house and hadn't sealed the watch properly leaving an air bubble in the seal which caused the failure. Unfortunately it was a watch my dad had for 10 years so that exact model was no longer available however after the evidence was presented to Ernest Jones they paid for a new watch but he's never been happy.

I now always send my watches directly to the service centre for the watch as I don't trust even the best jewellers around. Even the place I got my AP said they would service my breitling in house! And it would cost more than me sending it to breitling myself. When I've spent so much money it's the only way I can be sure the right people are looking at it!

Laughably it was Earnest Jones I used for the battery replacement, not cheap, told it was sent away to a Reymond Weil approved place. Clearly given your story this may or may not be the truth. Or indeed it could be Earnest Jones that's approved, who knows with any of these things. In any event... I will not be fobbed off, I'm not the type to roll over. I will have back, without further cost, a working watch, just as it was when I gave it to them.

Nice AP, Watches are just as much a money pit as cars, service costs etc :(

But at least with watches they get used every day :)

Oops! Well good luck in getting them to come clean but I'm sure it will be fixed. I do highly doubt that it would of been sent back from a watch maker as is. I also think that if dealers/authorised sellers want to do these things in house they should be advising the customer up front and also charging less than the watchmaker. At least then you know what you are paying for.
