Hi guys! Been lurking for a few weeks now and finally signed up!

Im 21 but rememeber being taken out in a 3.0 Z4 on an open day at the local BMW dealership when the car was released. Since then I knew Id be needing one :D

So on Saturday im going to view this beauty.. http://www.davidbrowncars.co.uk/vehicle-details.asp?new=&region=&order=&Model=&Make=8&notMake=&notModel=&BodyType=&FuelType=&Transmission=&intMin=&intMax=&RSpage=1&ID=731387&popup=&Modela=

The car is around 3 1/2 hours away though but well worth it IMO 8)

Ive spoke to the guy from the garage and had a little info from him, Its 14,300 miles from its next service and come with a 6 month parts and labour warranty (which can be extended to 3 years for £240 - special offer this week only)

Only problems the guy has told me over the phone was that one of the wheels has started to corrode a little, and the paint has a small blister above the exhausts.
I dont want to spend a penny more than £11.5k, is this reasonable?

Apparently the car has had 4 owners which put me off at first. Ive been told :
1st = BMW Demo car
2nd & 3rd = same family
4th = 55 year old retired policeman who had the car for 2 months before part exchanging for a Z4M coupe.

It states that it has the carver system, how can I be sure of this?

Does it all sound ok? Anything to look out for/check?

It looks good from the pics. Make sure the roof is auto. It looks like it is, but hard to say from the pic. If it's not an auto roof (push an hold button) then up to you if you still want it. I think I spy M seats in it too. The Mileage is roughly where a few of us are sitting with an 03 model so that's fairly decent.

Is the wheel corroding or just has some brake dust caked on?

Hi Mr Tommo,

Well that car is exactly the same as mine (well pre a few mods I've done) colour, are, engine, wheels, etc.

It has Sat Nav which is good.

Blister paint above exhaust will just need repainting as it's all plastic, so no rust.

If the rims have the slightest corrosion they will all need to be refurbished. It's a known problem and the corrode really quickly once started. Run a search on 108's or 5 spoke.

Mileage is OK, too many owners really, but looks 'clean'.

Rest looks good. You're welcome to PM me and call in on your way as you will pass my front door on route Saturday (off M6T, Lichfield) and see mine as a benchmark first.

I wasn't even aware that there was manual roofs...Thats wouldn't be good at all!
The garage owner said it was damaged in some way that made me assume corrosion. Cant remember exactly what he said.

Yeah agree with the owners, Il be keeping it for 3 years anyway though so that should even things out tbh and then its likely to be a part ex so shouldn't have too much of an effect. With the warranty thats coming with it Im hopeful there isn't too much wrong with it.

Thats an awesome offer mate but we are setting off at about 5:30 in the mornin on saturday so it'd be far too early! If anything changes though I'll definately PM you.

mr tommo, welcome to the form...

Cheers mate.

I haven't driven a Z4 before and im supposed to go there and decided whether its good or not :(
My local BMW garage (knights) can be right up their own arses at times and the chances of me getting a test drive tomorrow before I go will be pretty slim.

There are no manual roofs in the UK, so it will 100% certain be an electric one.

///M seats are narrow with deep bolsters. Standard are wider and litle boslter. Edit - the photo shows them to be standard seats

You really should not buy a Z4 on a single long trip, view and test drive. You're so incented to buy, the dealer has a strong position and a 3.0 will wow you if it were on flat tyres and 5 cylinders.

Oh and 5.30 on a Saturday - My Mrs would kill you for ringing the doorbell, then torture me slowly over the weekend, then to cap it all take the Z4 out and go on a solo clothes shopping trip....lol

Ive tried to act as unbothered as I can.. The dealer made out there was another buyer interested (suprise suprise), and asked if Id like to leave a deposit, I declined and just asked him to call me if it goes before saturday to save me the journey. But I understand what your saying, especially coming from a Renault Megane, anything will wow me :D

Haha I wouldn't blame her either. I'll know the plans by tomorrow so like I say if anything changes I will PM. Thanks again for the offer!

"M" seats were not avaiable on 03 US models and I am pretty certain they were not avaiable in the UK either.

Hi there. I'm just down the road from Knights if you want to have a look at mine. It's a 53 plate 2.2 and I paid about the same back in Feb (I was 21 then too!)

PM me if you're interested.

James.

awwww what a great forum this is. I'm absolutely no where near and I'm busy Saturday, but hey if you wanna come see mine any other you're welcome too! :D..

seriously tho.. my advice would be to check everything electric, make sure it brakes well in a straight line, check the oil to make sure it looks clean, check the alignment of the panels and look at any service history. you should be able to ring the dealer from the SH to see if anything else was done, maybe accident repair..?

it's madness - even a relative nail of a z4 3.0 would be good value for 11k in my book.. even madder to think that mine, 3 yrs newer, under warranty still & with 80 extra hp.. is apparently worth only about 7k more.. don't forget although it's cheap, it could still get cheaper!

good luck!

Ive sent a PM, should it be in my outbox or sent messages folder? Its currently in my outbox so Im not sure if its sent or not.

Andy If I take the wrong turning or get lost, Il come see yours too if your feeling left out :D

My first post's abit long but I asked if there was a way of identifying the carver system? I will ring the dealer to check the service history because they should be able to tell me if it had anything else done.

Just the number of owners puts me off really.

Carver. You should hear sound out of the door speakers (they have no speakers on basic system) and IIRC find an amp under the boot carpet by the battery.

My next step would be to go onto Parkers and find the exact history of the car by paying about £6. You can also call the guy up and get it's MOT certificate number. From there on the DVLA site view the entire MOT history, mileage, advisories, fails, etc. REal neat and free service.

I'd then find every 2003 Z4 3.0i with lower price on Ebay, autotrader petrolheads and print them out. Armed with all that and the faults you know like wheels needing refurb., you should be able to prove it's overpriced, too many owners, and do him a favour by offering low....

It stays in your Outbox until the receiver reads it

Wow these prices are much lower than what I paid half a year ago

I could be wrong about the carver as I don't have it - but - amp in the boot under the carpet next to the battery and possibly some extra speakers in the car behind the seats... somebody more knowledgeable will be along in a minute :D

Number of owners is subjective - my car had 3 previous and Im the 4th. The first being BMW as a demo car. I didn't find out til after Id bought it though. Having said that I've had no major problems  I think with the kind of cars they are you are more likely to get more changes of ownership as peoples circumstances change...

Will do mate. Will get on pistonheads later on after work and get printing.

Have you got a link to the DVLA MOT thing? Sounds very good! Should I do that aswel as the parkers check?

The first one is a BMW demo car, is that a bad thing?
