I've seen a nice 3.5is on AUC and if its still there next week will be going to have a look

Anyone interested in an Alpina? :)

The white one. It's practically on my doorstep. High miles, but as a second car they'll come down to average within a year/18 months

If i were going for an e89,it would have to be the 35i s as well,for theire performance and the fact there are less of them :D :driving:
 
If you test drive it, make sure you take it on some decent twisty roads as the 35is is 185kg heavier than the Alpina - that's over 400lbs, so you might well notice the difference in the corners...

That's probably close to the true nature of the beast. With the E89, BMW moved to target the Merc SLK buyer rather than the Boxter buyer and, while the overall package was more stylistically coherent, dynamically it was a step backwards - hence the lack of an ///M version of the E89, BMW know that it wouldn't/couldn't match the earlier version.

Not sure if I'd put up with the compromises of a 2-seater if it didn't have excellent handling, if I wanted a fast posemobile I'd get something like an E93 335i 4-seat convertible

Depends what you want, most people don't want an ///M as viewed as too hard core/uneconmical and uncomfortable for everyday use, this is where the E89 scores hightly :wink: with the added bonus its the best looking BMW around at present.

The e89 is a bit too heavy and complex to be a nice M car IMHO. I've never wanted an M car for daily use anyhow, if I had one, it would be a whim car with something else for daily use. As I'm no lottery winner, I'd prefer a single nice car that suits my needs, looks good, goes like stink and so on as owning two cars would cost me a bomb. Well, a slightly larger bomb than I own now!
 
So Stuart; what formula did you use to work out the potential cost change ratio?

I think that's the point, my Alpina is a fine-weather weekend toy with an F20 118d to use for all the normal day-to-day running around, so, for my toy, if I'm going to live with the inconvenience of 2 seats I want something that has power and handles well to have fun with.

I know everyone has different circumstances but, personally, I don't think I could live with any 2-seater as an only car, I'd find it too limiting. I'm currently looking at buying an old Landie as a general cr@pmobile to cover the stuff that I couldn't use the Alpina for and I don't want to use the F20 for
