It wasn't planned this way when i started looking for a Z4 coupe in 2012 but 8 years later i'm on my 16th :o Z4 & it appears there are many others who can't resist a Z4 & have been tempted by not just 1 or 2 but 3 , 4 or even more
Step forward & tell us how many & i'l formulate a list of those who have it bad as its becoming clear that there are a good few members who have had a minimum 3 Z4s which considering they are quite impractical , often considered a summer or weekend car is a great accolade for them :driving:

4 here Andy as you know, E85 3.0 SE and E89 35is currently in residence. :D

How come your user is john-e89 ? did you always know ?

No mate, i was a long time lurker and didnt get round to joining the forum until I was selling the M and I'd put a deposit down on the E89.

Great idea for a list, top job.

Quick question, for those that went e85/86 to e89, will you stay e89?

And for those that went e89 back to e85/86, why?

Good idea OP!

Taz seems to have a few as well!

I'm a lightweight - I've had 2 but only 1 at a time.

ETA Photos - this is Z4 Forum after all!

I'm on number 2 Z4. 1st was 3.0 E85 then my current 3.5i E89. I would definitely have no problem going back to an E85. Something about them that make me go giddy every time I see one and from certain angles look better than the E89. Then there s the price. I don't think there are any better roadsters out there for the money

Good question, and hard to answer imho. For me the E85 SE is such a fun car, just the right combination of power and handling, not too much so you can't use it all, you can really exploit the rev range, its nimble with fairly sharp steering and feel, but ultimately I prefer the E89, although it's biggest drawback is the lack of steering feel, it's numb, there's no denying it, but non run flats do go some way to addressing that, plus it's not as light but still very capable on non run flats, with a much nicer interior, a better all rounder I suppose. It'll be a quick thrash around if you want, and a laid back GT cruiser as well with a feeling of refinement the older 85 lacks. There may be set ups to correct the numb feel that I'll explore once the warranty runs out if I keep it. That said I'd be more than happy with the E85 if I have to sell the 89, I like them a lot.

Surely a Poll is in order ?

:worthless:

Its Five for me (so far). behind Mr Wilks, but in front of most others I suspect.

Number 1: Aug 2013 - Feb 2015 (2004 2.5Se with 120k miles)

Number 2: 2014 Winter Project Nov 2014-Jan 2015 (2003 3.0SE 86k miles)

Number 3: My P&J Jan2015 - ?? 2004 Alpina #019 76k

Number 4; 2015 Winter Project Nov 2015- Feb 2016 (2006 2.5SE 96k)

Number 5: 2016 Current Winter Project so a sneak peak only !. (2004 E85)

...and no I wont elaborate, so don't ask !

Quite a contingent of multi Z owners among us :)
DPG & DLH i think are on 3 ? Z4M-2006 5 ? & jamie-z4 the same if not on 6 ?
It has been pointed out before but the fact that from £3k to £33k there is one for every pocket that can be enjoyed equally says a lot about the car
As for the E85 - E86 to E89 direction & can you go back from there ? Yes you can & in my case whilst the drawbacks were hard to ignore the plus points outweighed them
Buy & drive what you like , there is no superlative version in my mind

2 for me,but 9 years and more ownership.
So just as addicted to those who change every 6-12 months, lol :D

3 over here. a 3.0 SE and 2 Z4M's. Current a keeper for the foreseeable! Also had a Z3 3.0 before this lot...

Currently missing the Imola Z4M

That is very insightful Mr Wilks - from what you have said (and with the benefit of multiple ownership experience) it looks like there are some subtle variations that make some models more suited to what owners want, depending on their needs.

What would suit a 2.0 E89 owner wouldn't be what an E85/E86 M owner would be looking for, and vice versa!

E86 3 litre suits me just right for now - but an E86 M might be a temptation.
