Nowhere near! Overall ave in the E85 is 26.5 mpg and in the E89 is 25.2 mpg. :driving:

I averaged 38 mpg on the way home in my 3.0i from Exeter to Birmingham at speeds of 60-70mph to make sure I made the 3hr journey home safely. Each week after it kept dropping so I thought he we go Id never see that mpg again now I'm back in the city. My car has been at 30+ mpg since that day and the worst I've ever seen it go was 28 mpg. That was even after track days and 1/4 mile days. Really got no reason to lie either. You could do a brim to brim test to be more accurate it may drop 2-3 mpg compared with the bmw trip computer. I was getting that sort of mpg you are in your z4 from a car 200kg heavier so maybe there's something up with your motor

loads of things can affect your mpg like a blocked ccv (usually main culprit), air filter, o2 sensors, plugs, coils, tyres, fuel, gearbox

The first day I had my 3.0i, I very carefully drove it home (about 50 miles) and recorded 41.9mpg. I instantly thought I'd never need a diesel again, that I should sell my TDCi Mondeo hack, get something petrol and as a minimum, a 2.5 6 cylinder. A month of ownership later, I've still got the diesel Mondeo and average 32.8mpg in the Z4. Still, for a three litre, I think that's pretty good considering fifteen/twenty years ago you could just about get that from a 1.6.

on comparison my mrs has a VW golf 2.0 GT petrol its about 2 sec slower 0-60 and shes gets 36mpg-40mpg which isn't much different to what I get and the golf is a lot slower. Its more comfy though so still like it

Get 35mpg out of mine on a long commute doing 'high' motorway speeds in comparison my 330d does about 43mpg on the same journey... Brilliant mpg out of a 13 year old 3.0 petrol.

This was on our recent trip to Dorset to pick up the hardtop a 560 mile round trip mainly motorway:

This DHL guy sounds like his cars need some new plugs and get a remap then or needs a good service. I can honestly say even after a hard day on track it read 28mpg. People forget as well the e89 is heavier than e85 but seriously 25mpg I was getting that in a E46 330ci convertible weighing more than 1650kg and Z4 is 1450kg so that doesn't add up at all..........

DLH's is a new car and my 35is has 4k miles on it and I've never had over 25mpg either.

that seems odd I thought those newer engines were more efficient like I said E89 weighs more aint they like 100kg heavier

are you using super unleaded all the time to maintain engine & fuel system?

I'd seriously consider getting a ECU remap done mpg then if you have E89 mpg will be higher after having more torque available and not needing so much power between gear changes

So the genius that you are have deduced that. Brand new Z4 with less than 1500 miles on the clock needs new plugs and a service! That's a just brilliant deduction NOT!

Always super unleaded yes, 3 litre twin turbo's, 340 bhp with country up and down hills I'm not surprised at the MPG.

well we all have different driving styles id regards mine as quite heavy footed all the time so getting 30mpg+ is brilliant yours is 300bhp+ so it sounds like that could be why. Id still get it remapped performance will be better and so will mpg
