This DHL guy sounds like his cars need some new plugs and get a remap then or needs a good service. I can honestly say even after a hard day on track it read 28mpg. People forget as well the e89 is heavier than e85 but seriously 25mpg I was getting that in a E46 330ci convertible weighing more than 1650kg and Z4 is 1450kg so that doesn't add up at all.......... :thumbsup:

So the genius that you are have deduced that. Brand new Z4 with less than 1500 miles on the clock needs new plugs and a service! That's a just brilliant deduction NOT!

keep watching top gear and taking your car to a bmw dealer.
 
recent trip to whitby 27mpg on way there. way back drove steady n i could keep it close to 40, but with normal driving 34mpg with some mways.

tbh id rather accelerate bit more and use the power, why get a car like this to plod along.
 
I like to think of it as the best of both worlds. Same MPG on a journey as my old fiesta when cruising, a million times the power!
 
On my drive home from Peterborough when i bought the car, the computer recorded 42.8mpg. This was helped by a couple of 50mph average speed zones and general traffic. I was mightily impressed, but once I started using it around town and for the shorter journeys that soon fell to 25mpg per tank. I can still get 40mpg on longer runs, but country blasts seriously bring that figure down ! And mines an auto.

I find that driving quick on motorways is a little pointless, so stick the cruise on and just get to my destination a few minutes later..But use the fuel saved to give a good "hooning" on the back roads ! best of both worlds really !
 
If so many e85 owners are saying they get the same mpg I don't see why the e89 35is drivers aint getting above 30mpg. Figures are the same for both cars the new 35is is no different on mpg to the old E85 3.0i. Maybe their only getting 25mpg because of the fact 35is is automatic, its a heavier car and it has a turbo too surely.

I'm no rocket scientist but maybe its something to do with the two turbos?
 
is it twin turbo like the old 335i or single twin powered scroll? I thought bmw stopped the last of the twin turbos

either way turbos should make a car more efficient with new technology we have now I think its mainly down to the automatic gearbox holding revs too long when u don't need it. Autos are generally worse on mpg to manuals. Cars heavier too has bigger alloys lots of things to contribute to mpg really

In my experience turbos make a car more economical only when you don't use any boost, use the loud pedal & fuel gets chucked in & economy goes out the window :o
