Mpg

I've never averaged above 34.4 no matter how I drive, tried everything but can't get any better. Even to Derby and back, though then I did put my foot down, i got 33. Driving briskly gets me 32 and driving like a nun I get 34, any ideas??

Cars, is your driving consistent? I can achieve an indicated 36+mpg on a long run driving at a nice pace ( not admitting to 75 - 80) If you are accelerating and slowing a lot then the figure obviously goes down. Also are you using cruise control? I always found and people may shoot me down but cruise control can increase fuel consumption because it will consistently accelerate to maintain a speed more than you would doing it manually. :driving: :driving:

Not got cruise control. I drove over 200 miles really carefully and got 34. I also drove 300 miles on the pace and got 32, it doesn't matter how I drive, the mpg is about the same. It's not just the computer, done it on full to empty, 300 miles give or take every time, it's bizarre.

Did you buy the car hoping for more? What engine size are you? Those figures look pretty reasonable for a 6 pot

Cars is it a 3.0? 32 - 34 is still good for this kind of car so dont look at the mpg screen and believe its doing whatever you want it to be :D

I would check O2 sensors, air filter etc in case they're dirty and sapping mpg.

Totally understand the concern if you're a 2.0, it should be running c.40mpg

Also has a lot to do with where you are driving. When I take the MR on a sunny day, 60-65 mph, run up the Motorway, I can get 34 mpg Ave out of a tank. :)

If I'm out on a Sunday morning, on local B roads, continualy up and down the Cornish twisties, doing a considerably slower Ave speed. I,m lucky to see the teens. :driving:

Around town, or on the occasional 9 mile comuter run, through Plymouth it's just as bad, as the engine barely warms up before I'm at work. :(

I've got a 2.0 by the way, so it should be higher anyway, I might as well have got a 3.0, irony, ha ha.

That's mad, I have 2.0 too. I get 30/31 mpg in city driving, which involves a lot of stop-start on commute. Doing a steady 80 mph on the motorway on a long run I get 40/41.5. I hardly use my brakes when not in town traffic though, dunno if that has anything to do with it ?

I was hoping for about 36, i have changed the air filter, had the timing pulley changed and the timing done, changed the plugs (just in case) put red ex alternative in, a more expensive alternative, I've tried the super petrol, nothing, it stays the same. Why does it not go down to 20 something when I'm driving faster, it's beyond me?

Never seen 40 whilst moving, lol.

TBH the least she has ever done is 28.5 and that was very unusual ! I don't use super petrol either. I think the figures I get are fairly typical for a 2.0. How about your MAF, have you had that looked at ?
An age thing ? Mine is a 2005.

Ah, I had that go in my vivaro van!! Had someone plug one of those fault finders in and she is as clean as a whistle, it showed up on my vivaro though.
