After 3 days of driving the Zed on hols I am amazed at the average fuel consumption......38mpg 8)

OK, this means two things...

1 - I was driving like an old man (well, not all the time occifer, the chap in the 330Ci was upset as we blasted past with the roof down enjoying the sun and the zorst)

2 - What an incredible motor (a 50/50 mix of 80mph (err, Im mean 70mph) motorways and 30-60mph country driving)

:driving:

Cool stuff. The car is great on gas mileage (the non-M's) we'll have a full day of spirited driving and still plenty o petrol in the tank

I only get 26 mpg :(

Will have to try cruising at 70 see what i get

ah but what engine does he have?

I have a 2.5si and with enthusiastic driving get around the 32mpg mark on A and B roads

I've also managed the same kind of MPG on long journeys with that kind of driving.
Mostly Motorway, but with small bits of city driving, and fast A/B roads.

Have averaged 36-38MPG a few times, and mines a 3.0i

When I bought it I never expected I would be able to get that sort of MPG - I used to have an MG TF and even getting 38MPG from that was a struggle and it was only a 1.8i

Proves just how good these engines are!..

On the motorway i can get anythign between 36-38mpg, however my commute to work some days means i sit on traffic most of the time which gets me anything from 18-25mpg. The journey is only 6 miles and i did get a 16mpg one day !.....not good, but the engine note, looks and fun factor more than make up for it. If i wanted economy i would have bought a diesel. :P

I am going by the on board readings will have to work out myself next time i go for a run.

What sort of speeds are you folks doing on Motorways to get 38mpg

Best I've had from my trip comp (so not totally trustable) is 31.4mpg. That was on a steady 70mph for approx 90 miles, plus about 10 miles rural.

Thats sticking on cruise, and just having a relaxing drive. As I do the run regularly, need to get the best economy!

Usually average about 22mpg.

When i visit my parents its near as dam it 100 miles, and i normally stick to around 80-85 mph. Sometimes less. And i have had the same mpg reading everytime i make the journey.

fwiw, it appears that engaging the sport button on my 3.0si is worth about 1.5 mpg over driving without it in 50/50 city/highway driving. Suspect it's the additional responsiveness negating the need to press the pedal more to get the same result. I've also noticed shifting is a little smoother but that might be because the shift point is at a little higher rpm. Regardless, I like it!

When you hit the mileage reset button does it start the MPG count again too? If not how do I reset that so I can check the RPM for a specific journey?

Recent 900 mile road trip I averaged 31.7 for the trip. 800 miles of interstate at 80-85 mph w/cruise on and 100 miles in-town 20-45 mph stop and go.
400 mile round trip to my sisters yesterday, 80-85 mph w/AC on, 32.8 mpg avg.
Best my 06 Mustang GT would do was 25 with an avg of 20-21. :(

Alright, I'll bite. How are you guys getting such good gas mileage? I've been known to have a "heavy foot" while driving around on local roads getting about 21mpg, but I take a 640 mile trip (roundtrip) every 4 weeks that's on a straight freeway going 75-77 mph in 6th gear with the top up. Best mileage I've had is 30.1 mpg, and that was with the stock 18" wheels...I seem to get about 1 mpg worse with the 19" wheels.

Tires are properly inflated, cruise control is on, etc.....

What gives?

If you drop that to 60-65 you will get over 35. I found that out on mine there was a spot on the highway that was 55 so i set the cruise at about 60ish and i forgot about it and didn't realize until about 3 hours later and when i checked it said about 38 on the computer and at the gas station i did the math and got 35 and some change! but i only have 5 gears and 60-65 keeps me at about 3k rpm so i would say what ever keeps you right at 3000 rpm will get you some good mpg! Also the vanos thing might help.

Well, as far as me, I'm relying on the car computer to tell me. I think people have posted that it's about 1 or 2 MPG off. However yeah, on local roads i'm around 21 MPG cause I race it alot and shift high in the RPMS. The highway though on mine says a solid 33-34 MPG doing 75-80MPH steady with cruise control on and sport mode activated. That said I have fiddled with the sport mode on and had the computer recompute MPG (while at highway speeds) and with sport mode off and had MPG recompute (both cruise control on and off) and there was no difference in the numbers to say it's more gas efficient with sport mode on or off.

Maybe on yours wasupdu its something with the weight, altitude, incline, wind speed/direction. Any number of factors IMO (granted I am just speculating) could affect MPG by a mile or two at 75+ MPH

I have no clue what I get and could care less..

Pontio, nice sig man..

Thanks, had a small meet with evotechnik forum and a few of the guys are very handy with cameras, i didnt even know that was taken as i was leaving.

wow.

i have the 2ltr sport and i get on average 40.9 mpg. moterway i get 42 and A and B roads about 39. the most i have had is 43.4 on a 30 mile journey.

believe me i don't drive slowly.... ever!!!

that is main reason i went for the 2ltr rather than anything bigger - i do a large amount of miles with my job. :) :) :)
