Hi guys,

Is there much in it MPG wise for the 3.0i auto vs manual gearbox?

I know the figures dont show much in it at all, but what about real world driving?

thanks!
Dave

if you do long motorway run's then little difference .
if majority short town trips then maybe 10/15% better with manual

I get 25-28 from my 3.0si auto. it is seriously depressing when after a long run (usually to visit friends or going on a road trip) you see your average slowly come down during your day to day driving until you have the chance to go for a long drive again

I dont find this on long runs, infact as stated on the other thread about mpg I mostly get around 36 - 45mpg on A roads and motorways (obviously traffic dependant)

Around town Im not as ecomonical in my driving but always get over 28mpg in my 2003, 3.0 autobox

What are the offical figures from BMW?

i think i must :P
. never been above 35mpg on computer & that's from reset & steady motorway for 25 miles
is your reading in KM/H ? :P

Either your offended by my mpg reading or think im lying?

neither offended or care if you are lying .
all our cars & driving characteristics/roads are unique therefore no 2 readings will ever match .
i just know that if BMW ever produced a petrol 3.0 auto that could hit 45mpg on normal driving then they would want the world to know

maybe its a hybrid ? :)

"Normal driving" Please define?

Also probably best you re-read my initial message

(this has got you all stirred up?.. Deep breath, exhale and relax before your next post)

well "normal" would constitute a mixture of A roads & motorway & take into consideration other traffic :stir:

thats pretty much the breakdown in my inital post

probably best you have a read over the many other mpg threads - although some of the messages it may tip you over the edge with envy :)

thanks for all your input guys!

seems like the official figures avg is only 1 mpg between both! which seems odd (or v good for an auto!)

Arent the new duel clutch meant to offer better mpg then manuals? not applicable with the E85 but still makes it seem like they are the future!

Auto or manual is not going to make as much difference as driving style or mix. My auto is doing about 32 average but that includes a good amount of motorway / A road stuff.

Out on the road at 50-70 you should get it into 40s. Around town you won't get above 20s.

Engage HRF and teens are the order of the day.
