I fitted it in my M :

Alpine unit here :

Intravene between the seats in the storage box next to the ipod. With the serial port accessable, I can update the unit using my pc now (which I did for the first setup as well). All units fitted with velcro only.

It is the Intravee that pvr has fitted, $250 from bimmernav plus delivery and import tax if you're unlucky. The Alpine KCA-420i will cost about £50-60. It's a bit pricier than the alternatives but it's worth the extra IMO.

Yes, as DGM said. Paid £125 for the Intravee (no import duty for me :) ) and £40 odd for the Alpine.

Love the upgradeability of the unit as well so you can program it using your laptop, hence the location I put it. Very intuitive unit, with the satnav controls to use it - turn to scroll, and push to select (and long push to get back to the "now playing" screen as shown above

Nice touch as well is that my car clock is now GPS controlled

Domcross, welcome to the forum. Welcome to the madness....

Since no one else has said it, you must go through an initiation of sorts, Here goes:

WE ARE PICTURE WHORES. WHAT DOES YOUR CAR LOOK LIKE????

I just recieved my AUX input cable to hook up my Ipod. I am going to install it today once it warms up a little. I will let you know how it goes. The cable only cost me $35.00.

Cheers mate - just ordered!

How long was delivery?

Any word on best place for the Alpine unit? I'm only finding it at around £60 including delivery online

Did you use the MINI version of the cable? 8)

I am strongly considering ditching the DICE interface I have in my car now for the Intravee - it has the added benefit that you can use other Alpine media interfaces as well like Sirius/XM. The Intravee solution might be pricy but if you add in a Sirius interface you have now saved hundreds over the BMW Sirius interface.

I had an Alpine system in my previous car with the iPod and Sirius modules and the Alpine iPod user interface was far better than what I have now with DICE.

No, I bought the E46 version (82 110 149 389) like some other posts recommended. It will not fit. I have to call Bavarian AutoSport and order the correct one for the Z and send the other one back....

Senwar, the Alpine you can get from here :

http://www.online-caraudio.co.uk/ishop/ ... cr164.html

and use the code 7459 with the password "caraudio" on checkout which gives you 10% discount

Nice one!

Thanks a lot. Just ordered.

Shipkiller, get the Aux input cable for the MINI,,,,same exact cable as for the Z4, just not labeled BMW and costs half the price (MINI cable $35, versus BMW $70). I did my car and Fire-n-Ice's with this cable :)
See the "Aux DIY" thread in the How-To section.

Mine took about 2 days to arrive, very nice outfit - invoice via email almost immediately (as well as despatch note). Where are you planning to install the unit? I think the centre console is the only real option as the CD wires are so short and have to reach the Intravee + you want to be able to update the Intravee as well. You need a Serial to USB concerter cable as well if you don't have a serial port on your laptop (Intravee must be updated whilst the iBus is powered, so only in the car possible).

I got my serial cable from here

Arrived in 2 days as well.

Thanks - will get this ordered too.

I've currently got the DICE installed in the centre console but at the top, under the plastic cover (not sure if this is coupe's only). But like the look of where you've installed yours, as it'll be easier to get to the units and I can take the ipod out easier then too.

Did you have to drill through the back of the console?

I did not drill through that, but I did remove the whole console to be able to get the oddment tray out. Once out, I drilled a hole in there for the ipod cable, 2 holes for the iBus cables, and 1 hole for the Alpine cable.

Then put the whole lot back together again. I used felcro on the side of the Intravee unit so it is stuck to the side of the oddment tray (where the other side of the velcro is).

I fitted the Alpine against the sidewall where the sub woofers are. Again with Velcro.

You really need access to your ipod as if you leave it in the car more the 14 hours, it goes in deep sleep mode from which you need to wake it up from as the Alpine unit does NOT wake the ipod if it is in deep sleep ...

I will do some research. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks pvr

Might be after some advice when the unit arrives re: removing the console! And cheers for the info re: the ipod/deep sleep

Lots of useful info in the forum here:

PVR

Is this deep sleep a feature that only existed on 3rd gen ipods such as yours?

My old 60gb 3rd gen would fail to boot up most monday mornings.

However my latest 5th 80gb never fails, so wonder if it may only apply to certain ipods.

I also know as posted on zed-cars.eu that the "Classic" ipods may not work, worth people over here being aware to.

http://www.zed-cars.eu/discussion/Topic19017-3-1.aspx

All ipods have the sleep / hybernation problem. The new iPod Classic does work with the Intravee kit, it is on the supported list and I tested it together with DavidM as well who has a Classic.

Mine is a 4th generation by the way
