Moving to the ///M side...

I wish I was doing the same but it ll be a 2.0 for me for a while for me........
Woots and browntrousers comment above made me chortle.
Enjoy the test drive and hope you get a good deal!

You don't really need the sport button, just plant your foot a bit harder, that's all it does on the ///M

I disagree - it does 2 things
- it changes the sensitivity of the upper third of the accelerator pedal (ie throttle opens more for the same movement of the pedal distance)
- it makes the DBW throttle react quicker to changes in pedal movement (for example if you lift off suddenly in sport mode it pops more, as it shuts the throttles more quickly so unburnt fuel gets into the exhaust)

The second part is important too.

That's why I just said plant your foot

Planting your foot with sport button on is better/more sudden though (per the second thing above)

Don't touch like the sport button. You'll just look like a plonked as you kangaroo away. In fact you'll probably do that with it off anyway

Why is it so much worse than the clutch on the non m cars? different degree of clutch bite or throttle response?

No, it's the 300 extra horse power that your 2 litre doesn't have :poke:

Couldn't bloody sleep could i so time is dragging even more now till i get to go see her.....shame its raining though

Ahhhhhh, the noise of that engine!! Nice steady push of the pedal at 30mph in second gear, hold it until 'around' 70mph. What a noise, I love the S54 motor, the way the engine note changes and the surge gets exponentially greater as you get further through the revs. The real fun starts from 5k revs, so keep it planted. Enjoy your test drive, let the oil warm through first.

Stay away from the DSC button.

I said DO NOT PRESS THE DSC BUTTON!!!

I wouldn't mess with Sport.. I drove past Sytner Solihul last night (heading for the Morrisons Xbox 250gb + Forza4 for £140 misprice 8) ) & i was gonna go see if they had any Ms.. thats a really nice spec'd car ... be careful if you're used to planting the hammer in yours, it will be quite a shock the way the torque kicks in.

Next to my local BMW dealer here in Warwick there's a Sytner Specialist Cars too - there's been an Interlagos MR in there for a few weeks now I keep driving past; Just checked their site and maybe it's sold, but it's been sitting in their window a while so they might be up for a deal if it's still there.

Excellent point too

Weather like this - be careful. I am used to the car, but it is still weird to get the traction control lights come on in third gear going about 60 whilst overtaking....

Thats so ture

If its had new tyres, make sure they are correct spec for the car (Contisport M3's or similar michelin/contisports) and not linglong ditchfinders

Other than that, request a test drive that allows the oil to get upto normal operating temperature (90-95C) before giving it too much beans. The water temperature RPM warning lights count down much quicker than the oil temp warms up.

The M diff can give the car a different feel under brisk acceleration, particularly on poor surfaces. Throttle and brakes will be sharp

Although whilst the Conti M3s may be a leap ahead of Linglongs, they're a leap behind modern rubber (Michelin PSS, Conti 5P, Goodyear F1A-2).

I was going to ask just this in another thread ;)
