To be honest I would just take it to somewhere that I trust. If that means I pay full price so be it , what's the point in saving 20 quid then get hit with the you need new brakes or ball joints etc, anything some of the more unscrupulous places might try to get the money back.

Not always true mate.... I think its somewhere like national tyres that are currently doing them for £33 and I guess are taking a hit to fail it and try and get work out of you!
I use tyrespot on scotswood road £35 iirc. they have always been really good with all of my cars.

the dealers are more likely to tell you you need stuff like discs, iv heard thats a common one. and more parts if there quiet.

like i said they have always been good with me. i dont like recommending people becasue it usually comes back to bite me
but i think these guys will be ok.
Im not sure if the £35 was an offer they had on but i reckon it will still be around that.

I use the local Council guys, Firstly because I get on well with them and secondly they will not carry out any required repairs and therefore have nothing to gain by failing it.
I have always used "Britania Tyres and Exhaust" for cars that i have owned which have been old enough to require an MOT.... last Dec my S2k cost me £25 for the MOT.. and 40 mins of my time.
What benefit would you get taking it to BMW for them to check the same thing.. but costing twice the price?

just had mine mot'd last week, my bmw dealer did it for me for 40quid all in, and even better i helped the mot tester test the car, was a nice morning actually!! lol
bmw can actually do it for 40quid, just say you had a letter ;-) thats what my fave service advisor told me to say!!

Ka failed Monday on some crappy balljoint, so he fixed it
X5 on CV boots so he's doing those once ordered as I have getting those sort of bits off
Z4 tomorrrow so let's see if I can get 3 fails in a row :thumbsdown:

Another option, BT fleet. The workshops are kitted out as you might expect (hope!) for a big organisation .. they do MOTs for the general public now (plus police etc.)
Test - pass yes/no, advisories - yes/no No added 'jobs'..
Caveat - I work for BT but have had both my company and previous 3 series MOTd there !

Get it done with BMW if same cost, especially if you use them for servicing. Plus, if it fails, they might be able to put things right there and then if they have the parts available.
Just had mine done @BMW and it went through straight away, even gave it a complimentary wash too for the same price.....even though I asked them not to. Oh well, think the guy did a good job of it actually, not a grit scrub.
