MOT station closure?

Just had a mail from dealer who looks after my other car.

They are closing showroom from tomorrow... and, will only be servicing cars which are prebooked.. thereafter will close.

So... you have a car needing an MOT later in the year & potentially none may be open... go figure....

Had my Z4 MOT'd today and was chatting the guy about it. He says VOSA have given a 3 month extension on HGVs because of the current situation, but they haven't made any changes regarding cars as yet. Despite the extension you are still responsible for ensuring it is road worthy.

It was something along those lines, wasn't paying that much attention.

My Mrs is a key worker & the MOT’s up on her XC60 end of April, booked in for Monday week yonks ago.

I’ll be giving them a call 2mrw to see what they can do

Hoping this is the case. My daily driver is due in a couple of weeks and have been unable to find anywhere to book it even before tonight’s announcement.

Got an engine light on too and was hoping to have that sorted, but may need to just settled with it being cleared... think that ones an o2 sensor. Joy.

Current info (am Tue 24th march) on the .Gov site says HGV/PSV's will be given a Temporary Exemption Certificate which has to be applied for, but MOT's for cars are still required and going ahead. In Northern Ireland MOT's on cars have been suspended but you have to apply for an MOT/TEC on-line.

But I guess it can and will change.

Isn't that just petrol stations? My BMW dealer is closing. It did say dealerships in the email I received so imagine includes workshops and MOT stations attached to the dealership, it didn't make it clear to be honest.

So, just spoken with LV.

They are monitoring the situation & this is their advice
- they have put a note on file wife is a midwife & MOT expires 25th April
- they have confirmed they are willing to continue insurance provided tyres, brakes & car itself are clearly in roadworthy condition should I be unable to get it MOT’d
- not applicable to my daily driver
- for the Z, they recommended to call up nearer the time when it expires in June. If situation remains, in the operators opinion as the law stands & after referring it should be left in the garage unless is being used by a key worker.

Hmmm, wonder what happens if my daily 335d goes past it's servicing mileage but BMW aren't open to service it?
How does my warranty stand if the engine goes pop and the oil has done more miles than they allow?

My local garage/MoT place has closed today, but the owner has posted his mobile number on the local WhatsApp group and says he'll open for any NHS worker, care worker etc who needs to get their car done, either repairs or MoT test.

Seems fair to me.

However, there will surely be a time the car must be used by even us mere muggles... we need to shop / go pharmacies or go out for some (good) reason eventually! Irrespective of whether we're key workers.

Jembo why won't LV provide insurance to your daily? Assuming I've read that right? You've got a daily and a Zed?
