Most Common

I've got a Nixon All Black Player as my daily, a £10 Swatch for travelling and a Georg Jensen Koppel for wrist candy. Nothing too pricey.

None of that is true though...

1) A cheaper car doesn't drive the same as a BMW or give you the same enjoyment/fun. Otherwise we'd all be driving one instead.
Not really true - The Ford Focus has a great reputation for driving...cheaper than a 3 series, or the Mondeo could be considered also. And the core purpose of a car....to get from A to B.

2) You'll gain much more of a viewing experience watching a 46 inch TV then a 32 inch.
Totally depends on viewing distance. It will still show the same picture! And the core purpose...to display an image.

3) An upper class seat is more comfortable and a better service then an economy seat.
But it doesn't do the core task any better...which is to get you from A to B.

Stu - you just don't get the whole "watch" thing, which is understandable. But just like a cheaper watch will do the same core function as an expensive one (tell the time), such is true other other items. Its down to what gives the owner enjoyment - I couldn't give a flying feck that the majority of people don't realise my watch is different to a £50 Argos jobbie (in fact, the only person to ever comment on it...was wearing a Rolex!). It gives me a sense of pride wearing it and that is what counts. You've already admitted that driving a BMW has benefits to you such as enjoyment...the same as an expensive watch has to its owner. I can't argue though that several grand on a watch is an extravagance...that is spot on!

But you could say that about any "luxury" item?

Sure, a £10 - £100 watch will do the same as a £3000+ watch, and in some cases, be more accurate.

But then, a cheap car will do the same as a BMW...haha, sometimes more reliably!

A 32 inch TV will display the same images as a 46 inch TV

An economy airline seat will get you to your destination just as quickly as an Upper class seat...

The list goes on, and not every body who pays "the premium" is a mentalist (obviously, I don't include myself in that...I'm a certified nutter!).

Exactly, strange comment really Ste.

The only one of those that is true is 3.

1. If you asked my mother which car is better her ka or my bmw she wouldn't really care either way and is the same for a lot of people
2. Only if you watch a lot of films/tv, if you only watch the news and a small amount of tv people wont be too bothered about the biggest best tv

Its the same for watches you either appricate them or not

Well all alone at home and mind is off on a wander and it came up with this question. What is the most common watch brand worn by a Z4 driver ? I would think we have a few Rolex owners more than a few Breitling owners but at a push i would stump for Omega. If anyone is interested in a poll in a poll tell me how to do it. So for me its Bell & Ross Breitling Hamilton Tag Heuer.

Omega Seamaster mid size in blue automatic

Baume and Mercier gold classima automatic

Don't drive a Z4 yet but I do drive a BMW and i have a TAG Heuer Carrera.

Poor Quality Pic and looks amazing in the flesh

Daily use, lightweight titanium, withstands anything; superb!

Occasional use, heavy and bulky but nice engineering.

Special occasions.

Some lovely time pieces

Daily work ticker Tudor Ranger ii, garmin for exercise and non work.

Just a thought, could interest in watches be an age generation thing?

I'm 29 but have always had a thing for watches from a very early age and used to love unique kiddy ones and then at 12 my dad took me to choose my first tag, mens F1 with black and pink face and dial.

No don't think age really has anything to do with it. I love collecting watches but not really wearing them daily. I've only started wearing my AP because it cost far too much to sit in a box. Eventually it will go into a box to sit.

Age maybe does have something to do with it if you've never had a nice watch before. Unless you're very successful/fortunate or have a proper thing about watches (and that's what you save for) then there comes a time - generally when families and mortgages become a reality - when spending £3k on a watch is just not possible or practical. Kind of like buying and running a Z. I'd love an Omega Seamaster, but that'll have to wait a few years - and given the choice between a new watch for £450 and a new set of wheels, right now, the wheels win. I guess it's really just what's important to you, personally :idunno:
