More discussion options

I was thinking wouldnt it be a good idea to break down the discussion area a bit more into different areas such as modifcations etc?

Cheers

I think you're right. As the traffic and members increase the justification to subdivide the forum increases, but not to the point that that you get sections with nothing in them.

I can certainly see the benefit in having a general section, Modifications, Problems, audio, How to guides, etc.

It would certainly make the site easier to navigate as the general discussion area is very random and has all sorts of different topics in it.

I prefer it as is because you get to see a broad range of posts and read about all sorts of topics but there are not too many to flood the forum.

To be honest a similar fairly small forum I moderate on felt lonely, quiet and dead when it was sub-divided up too much for no real reason except people felt that they needed more sections to make things appear more organised.
We went back and crammed everyone into a smaller set of sub-sections and now we find many members commenting on and discussing things they didn't even bother to go into a section to look at before, because they assumed it wouldn't interest them.

The danger is thinning it out too much that it dies. I think it's fine. With 'active topics' search, and 'my topics' search, you can easily find your old threads, or active busy ones.

Just my two penneth of course. Maybe a single further section called 'modding' would be enough!? Adding lots all at once has never seemed a good idea for a small traffic forum (imho)

I dont think it's needed really, most of the time I just use the "New Posts" button and scan down the list for anything that catches my eye.

If I'm looking for something specific then I used the search facility. As said I think it would spread to thin and areas wouldnt get visited.

Oh, I don't know. It seems lately that many folks don't pay atention to the current topics as they are. A lot posts that should otherwise appear in "newbie" or "problems" or "how-to" end up in the "general discussion" threads. I always want to suggest they post in the proper area, but don't want to look caddish. But whenever I see a post that starts "BIG Problem, please help..." or "New Owner Saying Hi" in the general discussion thread, I get a bit fidgety.

I guess that could just be the sign of a popular and growing online community, which is certainly a good thing. One of the BEST hidden features of the Z4 that wasn't in the owner's manual is THIS community! I love seeing and and reading comments from the Zed's globe spanning family. :D

That said, mod-specific thread seems nifty. But for a Z4-specific site, this one has a grand diversity of fare.
