Monkey mans power adder

Thanks for the positive comments guys.

I am really pleased. As the turbo wasn’t spooling and couldn’t think why? Turns out I forgot to put the sealing seat in the waste gate :headbang:
Silly simple mistake had me chasing my tail!! There is a boost leak where the turbo joins the pipe to the engine. And i am taking the turbo off cleaning it all out reassembling in. Then hopefully its done bar the interior going back in again.

I should be dropping it off in Norfolk to SCS to fit the ECU and that’s it done for now.

Another good day yesterday fixing problems. I had oil pooling in the exhaust and spitting out everywhere.
Could have been knackerd oil seals. Or just full of oil after over pressurising the system while setting up the oil feed.
So I striped the whole system down cleaned it all rebuilt the turbo. Changed a few things and reassembled everything take extra care.
Am pleased to say it’s all fine and working perfectly oil seals are all good. It even seemed to spin up quicker.

So fault dindingzabs fixing is goibgvreslly well. I have a boost leak somewhere. So bank holiday Monday I will be checking finding and fixing that. If that goes well I will put my interior back in and I will be very close to finishing.

I just need to book it into SCS no for the ecu.
I am tempted to run the car until it goes for the ecu. I will keep everything in place take the seat out of the waste gate. And not connect the charge pipe to the engine. And just run it NA for a bit.

Also after denying my dash drilling holes for gauges!! I needed to do something to fix it. I looked into getting it re trimmed to match my new steering wheel. But I just could afford or justify the cost.

A mate popped over a few weeks ago to see if I could make him some new wheel bits and bobs. I showed him my dash and he mentioned he did a bit of flocking. A deal was done and he has done this. I like it even though it’s been pointed out that it’s the same as action mans head :o

He said he hadn’t noticed the silver line until he took the pictures and will touch it back in. It’s weird it’s dark grey but looks black apparently? Looking forward to seeing it in person and fitting it and my new wheel and bits.

would absolutely love to run this against may car once its finished to see where they both stand, we must meet up and record some runs.

I would be very keen to do that Byron. I will be quite a bit down on overall BHP compared to yours. But power delivery will be completely different. And i would give me a very good yard stick to measure my car against

such different power delivery, id expect yours to be equally as quick with all the TQ, and its probably alot lighter than the big ole s54 iron beast!! my fiesta ST has around 230hp and it feels ballistic only weighting 1088kg., no way in a million years my z4 could catch it on a B road. no way.

Lets make it happen and we can record , my last dyno was 517hp ( crank) its had the 100 CELL cats and large bore exhaust setup since , the supercharger "race" brace, and "track" kit oil cooler with the larger setrab unit. id like to think its running 530-540.... another gent on zpost forum made quite abit more with identical setup vehicle.

My car is due a real leg stretch.

It will be interesting to find out
Also as this is such a unknown type of set up. I just don’t know if it will really work? Will it make boost/power??
Just don’t know??
Sure of one thing only I will either be a hero or a laughing stock!!

But judging by other people’s set ups. And how the superchargers work out. I would think my car will be running around 350-400bhp where it will make that power god knows? It may be really high in the rev range? But that’s also fine with me. Just have to drive it right and use the gears.

The biggest myth problem with turbo cars is the lag thing. If you’re doing 40 in 3rd and it takes ages to get going. That’s not lag! That’s just the car not in its boost threshold. Any highly strung NA engine is the same. S54 for instance you have to drive it use the gears keep the revs up for it to be quick. It’s not a bad thing it’s actually good. Because you can drive the car normally when you want to.

Lag is not a myth, it's just not as bad as people make out.

We now have a 1.8T and a 6.2 NA. The 1.8T is very flat under 2k rpm and above it there's perhaps half a second while boost builds from being off throttle to gunning it. The NA gives power straight away but it's true you still need to be in the higher revs for a powerful response.

I am not saying turbo lag isn’t a thing! I am saying boost threshold and lag are different things! Most people don’t know the difference. The motoring press font seem to! So most people now think if you stamp on the loud pedal at 2000rpm in 4th at 40mph and don’t get instant shove from a turbo car that must be lag!! Witch is laughable is all I am saying.

Also I think comparing a 1.8t engine built for family and general driveing. To a 6.2 v8 that was built for performance is a little unfair on the 1.8

It’s been a busy few weeks!
The car is no longer at my workshop it’s sat on my drive. And I have been fixing faults and working on it every evening. Much to Mrs monkeys displeasure!

So at the moment it’s running and the turbo is spoiling hard and fast. But I do t have positive boost. I have been removing things and I think I have a boost leak on my MAF tube before the TB! I will findbout this evening.

I also have loads of chassis warning lights DTC tyre warning I am hopping it’s not the dreaded ABS pump problem. I don’t think it is. But if anyone local to me has the kit to plug in check and clear fault codes? Could you please help a monkey out and pop in to OX28 beer coffee kisses flowers what ever you want in return

The tyre warning is usually a wheel speed sensor (assuming it’s not genuine low pressure of course 😉). Hope you get the boost leak sussed.

I think due to all the other things my car could be in transport mode. I have had the dreaded 3 lights on from wonky alignment too. Its been sat with the battery disconected for so long. And had so many things done i need somone to plug in and clear the faults.
