Fair play! :lol: :thumbsup:

Think I'm Duncan Bannatyne'ing this meet :(

Big family do for a relative's 90th birthday on the weekend of this, and the folks are really keen that we make the effort and take the trip down. It's in fecking Canterbury of all places. You can tell I'm not exactly over the moon about this :cry:

That's about a 1000 mile round trip from you isn't it?! :o

Probably! Jo's priced it up at ~£150 for flights and a hire car, whereas fuelling the Z4/van would cost around £190 for the 982mile round trip...

Fair enough I'll strike you from the list attendees, which airport do you fly into for Canterbury?
We used to have the same dilema when going to Suffolk, by the time we'd driven the 1 1/2 - 2hrs to the airport for the prerequisite 2 hrs beforehand then drive from Stansted it was actually quicker to :driving:

I'm leaving Jo to get on with it but I think it's Gatwick hence the hire car. I think I'd rather drive as I hate hanging around in airports. It's her side of the family and not really folk I know, hence I'd be keen to stay behind and come on the meet! :D

The merchant banker smilie is generally used when there is mention of politicians or DumbF**k footballers

We went to Canterbury last year as part of our grand tour of England & Wales. (Down the East Coast to a wedding, thru Wales then back up the West!). The cathedral is pretty impressive. A good drive though!

I have been in touch with the Dunskey Golf Hotel and here is their reply such as it is.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for your enquiry, we do have availability for your party and the rooms you require, the rate would be £30.00pp for B&B.

Regards

Gareth

Not sure if it is an especially special rate but does fall slap bang in the middle of the quoted price range per person.
I'll be booking up for myself and SWMBO just as soon as I get paid again.

I have devised yet another route to include the Hotel / Portpatrick and varied it a bit following on from comments that the run over Wanlockhead is worth doing. I have also included the original run over the top outside of Moffat and will recce it properly before the run despite Muppets misgivings over it just to see what it really is like.

Details:
* Sat 17th & Sun 18th March 2012
* Meeting 09:30/10:00am for an 10.30am departure
* Return Sunday late afternoon
* Start/Finish Moffat High Street (DG10 9DL)

Format:
* Approx 300miles driving spread over 2 days:
* Destination Portpatrick
* Outbound route via Wanlockhead, Galloway Forest.
* Overnight night stay in Portpatick (B&B)
* Return route via Cream O Galloway, Solway Firth coast road.
* Almost all A/B/unclassified(!) road.
* Exact route TBC in case Muppets predications come true....

Hope the run meets everyone's expectations including those making a day trip of it.

**********************************************************
First Name Richard Guinety

Arrival Date 17 March 2012
Departure Date 18 March 2012

Requirements or Comments
Hi, I am organising a run through Dumfries & Galloway for a group of motoring enthusiasts from the Z4-Forum. We are looking for overnight accomodation for one night for a minimum of 11 people (still awaiting confirmation of final numbers but won't be to different)in Portpatrick and wondered what you had available at that time, I currently require 5 Double rooms and 1 single. Could you please confirm availablility and prices for that date.
Regards
Richard.

I had a PM from Jimmypop regarding booking the B&B, i have just tried via the online booking form and it wouldn't let me book just the Saturday night, so can I suggest that everyone requiring a room contact the B&B directly via there enquiry form or by ohone quoting the above couple of e mails to ensure they get a room and at the advertised rate.

I just looked to see how far the meet point is from me....347 miles :(

Have just emailed the hotel...

Edit - room booked. Thanks for the reminder Richard. It is the 17th we're staying over yeah?
