Minor Stonechip!!

I shan't moan anymore when I get a little stonechip, unlike this i3 owner :o

I'm guessing the bonnets are made of carbon reinforced plastic

I imagine expensive to replace and your insurance wouldn't cover it unless you could argue with BMW that it's a design flaw

Can't see why your insurance wouldn't cover it to be honest, that's what insurance is there for but looks like it's been hit with a boulder or a brick not a stone and for something that big to have hit it either someone has chucked it or it has come off a tipper truck where the load is possibly too high and not secured.

The bonnet design is not the best in terms of material and how they stand up to that impact but things could be worse, plus if it had hit the bumper and caused that damage would you still think you could argue with BMW over a 'design flaw' probably not.

You're correct Angie from what I understand it was something that fell off a tipper lorry and owner couldn't get hold of them. I would imagine if the bonnet was just plastic or steel it probably would have stood up better but from looking at that pic I wouldn't be too pleased at how easy the panel has shattered unless designed too :(

If it's some sort of fibreglass thingy then I'm not surprised. You should see the mess a pheasant made of my nose cone....

I hate those tipper lorries. Seen it before where a brick caught between the rear wheels was flung up.... glad I wasn't near

I'm sure the i3 possibly wasn't hanging around when it was hit which may also contribute but this is where dash cam footage would be great, plus I'm sure the police would be interested in the unsecured load which caused this. It could have been a lot worse! But I would be fuming! So I assume the i8 may have similar issues.

That's doesn't look like a cheap fix. Any idea how much that panel would cost to replace?
