Mileage Phobia?

I am the only one who enjoys motorways - ok, if you're in a tailback sure its a pain, but the rest of the time its great. Cruising along at erm . . . 70 and then stepping on the gas and marvelling at how strong the engine pulls in 6th and how urgently the car accelerates, then easing back into the middle lane - all with the top down, so you've got the looks and the power, the perfect sports car :driving: (Don't get me wrong I love a twisty country lane too).

Marlon, you aren't alone!

I like motorways when they are working properly.

I drove to Leicester on Saturday - used the M40 but went over to the M1 via Silverstone. Got that horribly wrong - they're turning that section of M1 into a "S**T-Motorway.

So coming home I used the M69 and A46 to get to the M40 near Warwick - much better progress (I don't think I had to do 70 all the way home). 3 hours going, 2 hours coming back - much better!

But I still prefer a windy A or B road with good sightlines. I just hate urban roads - Z4 feels wasted on those!

At the moment, a camera-free motorway. Not Q-car-free, though.

Oh well, I didn't find any - or should that read they didn't find me!

Disconnect your speedo and use the sat-nav for your speed !

No - disconnect both of them and go for it!

You can always try the "I didn't realise that officer".

A long trip does nothing but good to the engine, years ago I did Alton Towers to the far end of Cornwall in 4 hours late at night & the 325i loved it, as good as having a dealer service! (that was before speed cameras)

Didn't need the tw*t-nav - I knew the way anyway from a map, roads-signs, direction the sun was setting and such like! :headbang:

Speedo is a useful fitment, even if only for ban avoidance.

Best quote I've seen on the subject...

"Not driving a nice car is like being married to a beautiful woman and not having sex, because you're saving her for her next husband"

Mine is a daily driver and I regularly do M42, M40, M25 trips from Staffordshire to Surrey or down to Hampshire. Then the local running around. I bought the car as my only car and knew I would put mileage on it. But then, I bought it as a car that I enjoy driving, looks good and is not bad on fuel for what it is. Why own it and not use it?

If you buy a z4 or any other car for that matter as a daily driver yes your going to use it and do the mileage as necessary, but if your fortunate enough to be able to have one as a second vehicle then several reasons why you wouldn't clock up much mileage, I've only done 6000 miles in my 35is in nearly 3 years due partly to health issues, but on a nice day to take it for an hour's drive is as good as any medicine, and yes I do spend nearly as much time polishing etc as driving but if you've got something you take pride in its all part of the enjoyable ownership experience

That’s a different issue entirely to someone being afraid to use it for fear of adding mileage
