Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport - beware

I know I’m a bit thick sometimes and everyone is on about whether they are correct for the guarantee but they still look like 230mm wide to me not 275mm as they where bought and paid for. Isn't that what the thread started about?

Hi Sars, yes OEM wheels (Front: 255/35 ZR19
Rear: 275/35 ZR19) Don’t have pictures handy will see what I can do next couple of days. Why do you ask?

This, they just look stretched, which of course they! Michelin have stated that they are correct and so I'm interested in seeing how the look on yours. Mine are on OEM style 799M wheels.

Here’s a couple of pictures not sure if they will help you much though

@Berneray , thanks the front look great and the rears look exactly like mine. How do they feel?
I don’t push the car to its limits, so can’t comment from that perspective but for my daily use and fun trips they feel just fine in terms of noise levels and grip. Once daytime temperatures drop and you get those cold damp days I just feel more comfortable with these.

According to the data on TireRack the tread width of their 275/35r19 CrossClimate 3 is 8.8" (about 224mm).

The same source says the Michelin PS4S in 275/35r19 has a tread width of 9.8" (or about 249mm).

This is an old argument, the owners manual states that “Certain makes of tyres are recommended by the manufacturer” it nowhere states that you must use star marked tyres, what it does say that incorrect wheel and tyre size combinations can affect etcetera.

This is because it is not enforceable, you get a puncture and they only have non star marked tyre what are you going to do? It is an obvious and predictable scenario, hence the recommendation, and not a must only use.
The only issue I have had with non star rated tyres is the idrive doesn’t automatically recognise them and you have to input the details manually. The last ones were fitted by BMW

Just wondering if you fitted the wheels and tyres in the end and if so are the noise levels increased?

@TTZ4 Yep fitted them on Sunday, just in time for some cold weather and snow! I'm impressed with them, on Sunday morning before the switch, I took the car out with the MPSS on, it was cold and wet and I was a little enthusiastic turning right from a T junction, a quick fish tail in first and then another in second. Now that the CC3S are on, there is just much more grip when the tyres are cold, even on a frosty -2 ºC as we saw this morning.

As for comfort, I would say that they are an improvement in comfort and noise, though my rears are now 275/35 R19 and not 285/30 R20 that came off, so that helps too.

Good to hear. Managed to source a set of 799M 19 inch wheels off eBay with only 1000 miles on them for £850 and plan to fit CC3 sport tyres. 👍🏻

You will see from my earlier response I also fitted CC3S on 19” wheels and agree with sars feel very assured in wet and/or colder conditions and not any more noisy than my standard sport tyres possibly quieter.

Thanks sars and Berneray for your reply’s, I think after the last couple of hairy days on summer tyres in slush they probably worth investing in.

I will add the same experience.
I have recently had cc3's fitted to my 30i MSport and the difference is astonishing.
Unlike the previous Bridgestones, these just grip, even in these less than ideal conditions.
I live in a semi-rural location so the roads don't get treated and it feels no different to driving on a normal dry day now.

Noise and comfort are far better also.
In short, just get them, you won't regret it. 👍

I used to have cc 2 on my Audi tt Quattro
Changed the tyres yesterday to cc3 sport 19 and feel scammed the alloy seems to be popping out more than the tyre it’s self no protection to rim at all and it’s the same inside and out I don’t have pictures of out as it’s on the ramp but got the inside picture but you can see the gap. Surely this must be a fault using same measurements as before.

Here is more pictures; I took it to a different tyre place to check if I was going mad. View of outside rim and inside rim. No protection to rim all four tyre like this. 245/35/ r19 , my cc 2 were perfect this is shocking. And because there so stretched I get vibration on motorway. Went back they said they will contact Michelin Monday to see if can come examine and change it.

So, Michelin first reduced the tread depth from 8mm as a standard to 7mm

Claim last as long if not longer

On the Volvo the latitudes used to easily last past 40k… am struggling to make it to 30k

Now this

@sars - suggest you visit a big tyre place (Costco / ATS etc) & ask to compare width to another manufacturer like 4 like in size ratios.

Love the brand, but can’t help feel u / we’re being conned into paying a premium for less, that’s getting less & less
