It's done....

At last my wheel works. Fitted the retrofit cable this morning, reconnected all and blow me down, it f@cking works!!

I think you owe it to yourself to have a nice cold pint... :)
well done mate, happy you've won the battle!

Glad you got there and it's all the more satisfying knowing you did it with a £5 cable and not a seeing to by a dealer :)

Thanks guys. It was certainly epic. With a moral being to never assume your model is prewired when all it takes is a three minute check!
BIg steering wheel controlled shout out to all who helped me in my time of need. I came very close to sending the damn thing back :!:

BTW, indy reset my airbag light for me too.

The interesting thing was on Autologic the fault code was listed under steering wheel but upon clearing the code the light remained on. Swapped to another program called Wow! (Wurth diagnostics) which found the fault code as being within one of my side airbags.

Turns out that your modules are not a logically placed as you might imagine and it's worth having a root around similar software areas to find the problem.

Cost to reset: £20

Can you explain what you mean by this statement?

Yeah sorry CJ - it's hard to explain!

When the diagnostic software searches for faults, the use has to open up the relevant drop down menu associated to each part of the car. For airbag its under the safety section. Once in that section you're confronted with the next choice - which airbags etc. My steering wheel fault code was in the side impact area of the software and not the steering wheel area.

Apparently the modules are linked but not in the most obvious way. If you have a wheel airbag fault code then it might be that the code needs to be cleared from another area of the cars software (most likely another airbag area).

Additionally if people have been having issues with their airbag light and resetting the code through Autologic doesn't work, then they might want to find somebody that uses Wurth's Wow! software as it's simpler and more user friendly to search out the area of the fault and truly clear it.

Does that make any more sense?

when taking out the lead to check wires 9 and 10 do i need to do the battery off for 20 mins first or just pop lead out and check

No need to disconnect battery Paddy. Just remove the lower cowling and unplug. Thats what I did and was fine.

Hi guys,
I'm having the same problem as Inkey so it's been very useful to see this thread unfold.
I went to take the lower cowling off yesterday to see if mine is missing the cable too but I couldn't shift it, it seemed to be quite stuck right at the front directly behind the wheel. Any hints for techniques to get this off? I didn't want to put a screwdriver between and lever it in case it marked the plastic.

Cheers

Have you taken the single self tapper out that hold the cowling on? Sunk into a deep hole on the underside.

Hi CJ, I took out one screw and could get most of the cowling free, it was just stuck right up next to the back of the wheel on both sides. I didn't know how much more force I should put on, do you know if there is a clip there perhaps?

Top and botton halves of the cowling are just clipped together at the top edge. Should split open with fingers only and easily. As noted abover you have to drop the column lock lever too. Had mine off many times and can't recall any challenges at all.

Well just checked and all the wiring is there for the Mfsw. With the removal of the wheel bolt is a socket set ok and is there a specific torque to tighten it up to on refit or just bloody tight?
