Meet my new French wheels

Am sure there are probably a few scooter enthusiasts on here so thought I'd present my newest aquistion. Its a 49cc 1966 Peugeot 104BB styled like it's come straight out of a 60s futurist manifesto. Lots of restoration to do on it starting with a full strip down. Has compression though and if I can find a left hand replacement pedal and some new 15" tyres I may have myself a little French winner.

Had planned to buy an old 50 from my youth back in the late 80s (was proud owner of a 1983 white Honda MB5 with bikini fairing, Micron exhaust and uprated reeds) but this thing appeared on eBay and my finger pressed 'commit'. If I cant get it going or dont have time then I guess it makes for some cool motoring objet d'art :D

Cool numberplate too. Need to get registered but without any documents so going down the old tax disk route as it has one on it from 1972 (incidentally, anybody know it it would be transferable to another vehicle and what I'd need to do?)

Anyway, here is 'la Vielle Dame'...

Nice! I had a Black Honda MB-5, You sir, had taste in 16yr old legal motoring!
A fellow MB-5 rider! Stuart, we are kindred spirits sir. By far the best and even at the time, rarest 49cc sports moped second hand money could buy

A bugger to derestrict though, you had to remove the built in restrictor in the exhaust by cutting the pipe and welding in a new section, and if I remember rightly, I replaced the carb too. All to get another 10mph!

Yeah it was. Managed it though with the help of my dad and his tool array!

Not sure about the scooter, but I'd have purchased the reg plate off you. Just shelled out near £1k on a private 'AMW' reg for the youngest member of the CJ family. Assuming I get it...

I do however have some vague recollection that if the DVLA do assign it back to the bike then it becomes a non transferrable plate. Perhaps I just made that up and it only relates to them assigning a period reg to an old car.

Cheers all.

Yeah, CJ - that's what I suspected too. Read somewhere it might not be transferable. Shame as it was also a big reason for me buying. Will look into it as could look great on the Zed.

That's so cool! Love the retro styling on it - especially the whitewalls... they look as if they've been on it forever. You'll have to post some pics once you've done the resto work!
