Margaret Thatcher

Reading the paper today and wow I didn't realise how many people hated her, yet she was voted the best prime minister since WW2.

This summed up a lot of facebook posts i read.. http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/people-with-no-idea-who-thatcher-was-ecstatic-that-shes-dead-2013040865066

Seems to be a lot of young left wing youngsters who were hardly born when she was in power. A 25 year old on the BBC radio even blamed her for the Iraq War! :o

The papers love to focus on the negative...it's how they ply their trade. What makes me laugh are all the people berating her who in fact aren't old enough to even remember her being in power. They just listen to their parents/friends and regurgitate what they say.

Maybe there are people out there who have a just cause for complaint about her policies but I suspect an equal number simply didn't like the tough medicine she had to dish out to a lethargic and union-ruled Britain.

Whatever peoples' views of her, I thought how repulsive it was to see people celebrating her death. I can think of people who I might say have done me wrong, but I'd be a pretty poor excuse for a human being if I celebrated them dying.

This is all a bit serious, isn't it? On a happier note I managed to drop the roof today. :)

I See ladbrookes are still giving 6-1, on, "Ding dong the wicked witch is dead", making number 1.

 Gota love living in a democracy.

Spot on.

Yeah I wasn't even born when she became prime minister and was 5 yo when she stepped down, so I can't really say I have developed my own opinions about her.

But I do agree that it is in poor taste to celebrate someone's death, she can't have been that bad surely??

Of course not, had a difficult job and had to make some serious decisions which her Government inherited from the previous incumbents. Just my view and I lived through her period.

She stopped the country being held to ransom by trade unions, I remember the 3 day weeks, power cuts, refuse not being collected, bodies not being buried, etc. she wasn't all good but did a lot of good for this country, more than the pair of spineless twats we have now ever will.

I agree 100%. The 3 day week was in the early 70's however, it was the infamous 'Winter of Discontent' in 1978/9 that paved the way for her election. A bad time.

politics is a strange thing. to some extent the same still happens now with the public sector, to some extent I sympathise, but if the cash ain't there, what are you to do?! make a false promise..

maggie thatcher worked tirelessly for the good of the country , she stood up to the blackmailing unions who at that time were strangling the life out of the country. she was a thousand times the man blair ever was, he is an absolute disgrace , a lying moneygrabbing crook who has made millions from connections he and mandelson made feathering their own nests whilst swanning around on yachts and private jets at the taxpayers expense accepting gifts / bribes from berlsconi and the like for himself and his family and cronies. maggie thatcher doesnt deserve to be remembered by the rants and vitriol of a bunch of hard left anarchists , the rent a mob polltax rioters who turn up at evry road or runway protest going. remember the rebate maggie won for great britain, she stood up to the eurocrats while blair surrendered our national interests to the fedralists. and left us all to struggle through the s**t he and new labour left us in while he suns himself all around the world ,he is a 100 percent see you next tuesday !!!! he should be refused entry to the country he did his best to ruin, I bet the queen wont attend his funeral !! :headbang: :headbang:

Views and opinions vary greatly depending on which part of the country you are in, nuff said.

Spot on. Speak to people from the north about her and speak to southerners and you'll get two ends of the opinion spectrum.
I admired her for her tenacity and strength and for doing a job in what was quite frankly a mans world but she was wrong in a lot of her policies.
Yes we have a government today who are, 'these are our policies and if you don't like them we have some different ones' but I wouldn't want the Thatcherite government back in power.
She did some good and she did some bad and the bad she did was very bad. There are families today still suffering from her policies but then again we haven't had a government since who has managed to put her 'errors' right.
I won't shed a tear over her passing but the ones who are celebrating it are a disgrace.
