Map update Europe 2022-2

Frustrated that I followed all the steps and nothing happened when I plugged the memory stick in. Deleted everything, reformatted the stick and starting again.

Another couple of hours before I see if that does anything :x

Triple press start button and enter diagnosis mode. Wait for all system boot up. plug in the usb stick to the USB-A port near the 12v lighter socket. Wait for a bit time for the update prompt. Also, make sure the USB stick is in FAT32 file system. Can't remember whether exFAT will work but should work. If the stick is in NTFS or other file system, it will not work.

thanks.
The download manager says NTFS and exFAT works. Can’t recall what the stick is default setting is. Perhaps I just expected it to recognise the stick straight away as per the video. Must be more patient

The “Genius “ at the dealership told me to use a USB stick with a tell tale light - that would at least determine that there was some communication between the stick and the system.

Yep, my memory stick was showing a red light but nothing was happening.

32FAT format is only for 32 gig memory sticks. The maps update requires a 64 gig stick, so 32 FAT format is not an option.

Checked my usb stick, it's exFAT file system.

As said before, plug it in and wait for some time (can't tell exactly how long to wait though). The update prompt will eventually show up. When I update my car, I sometime have this issue. All I did was leave it in and start driving. Sometime it came up in a minute or so. Sometime it took longer.

Another thing you can try is to force the system restart by pressing and holding the volumn button for 20-30 sec until the system restart. Sometime that solve some issue.

But again, if you don't bother fuffing around this, it's not a big deal. The OTA will keep the map up2dated in the region where you usually drive or specified somewhere in the ConnectedDrive online portal.

Thanks.

Tried the triple press of the start button and nothing happens.

There is a light on the memory stick when you plug it in so at least it’s working. Checked the files on the stick and it shows all the files and it’s just over 29G so they are all on the stick.

Phoned BMW help line and they have remotely cleared the cache memory on the car system and say it should work but it doesn’t.

Not 100% bothered about the euro maps updates but something is wrong and needs to be fixed. Next step I was advised is to take into the stealership and let them have a try but that will mean spending hours waiting. In some cases I am told they will send a pre loaded memory stick out in the post but we will see. :x

The local BMW dealer struggled to install the updates on one of our cars!

From memory here. I seem to remember that they were sent the updated files on a stick. Well that’s what they told me!

This is so true. My car, out of nowhere, told me that the left headlight failure and need to visit the dealer. I phoned them and they want the car for at least a day, which is quite annoying. From what I can see, the headlight is working okay. It's likely to be some software glitch, just as the issue of not able to update the map you guys are experiencing.

The next choice is where to take her. Local Coopers approx 5 miles away but who are crap or Lloyds in Newcastle who are good but yon side of the city and 14 miles away.

Decided to ring Coopers. First “expert” said I had been using the wrong USB port and should use the one in the armrest. The next person at the same garage said that was rubbish and I could use any port. The service dept said I had to drop the car off all day and they would have a look at it. When I told them it wasn’t that important, I was phoned back and now they are preparing their own memory stick and will let me know when to come in.

Starting to loose the will to live.

Apologies for hijacking the thread with my issues, but hopefully, can eventually help anyone else having the same issues loading the updates..

Thanks for the reminder, now i finely found the page where i can download the BMW Download Manager so i did downloaded the data.
Do you have to use a stick with not more than 64GB or is it possible to use one with more GB's.

Just finished the download and the it says that the file is only 30,77 GB???

My largest usb stick is 64GB so don't know whether bigger one will work. But I remember I read somewhere on BMW website that the usb HDD will not work as it requires a lot power than memory stick.

Yep that is about the size of the file. You can put it on any memory stick as long as it’s big enough. I think the next size up from 32 is 64.

Let me know if yours works

If you have a dealership near you they can download the maps for you and give you a memory stick to use then return.
